Chapter 198: A past between them

"Miss Ambrose...’’

Ruby had just entered the university gates when she heard the voice. She halted in her tracks for a moment before she continued walking.

"Miss Ambrose..." Ronan entered the campus, chasing after Ruby until she finally turned.

Ruby’s face was stoic as usual but her eyes were icy as she glanced at him, "This is the fifth time you stalked me."

"Ouch!" Ronan clutched his chest, "That’s a hurtful thing to say. Had I been stalking you, I would have done it secretly.’’

"What do you want from me?" Ruby shook her head, "I don’t understand. Do you like the thrill?"

"Miss Ambrose, don’t you think you are overestimating yourself if you think you are thrilling?"

Ruby blinked.

"You are quite boring."

Ruby quietly turned around and continued walking.

A few people passed by, their curious gazes wandering off to the ’university goddess’. They whispered in each other’s ears both when they turned again, Ruby was nowhere to be seen.

"Was it an illusion?"

’’No, it was her..."

"How could she disappear so fast?"

At a little distance, Ronan had Ruby pinned to a tree.

"What... are you doing?"

Ronan released her hands, "Woman, I am preserving your reputation, can’t you see?"

"From who? You?"

"You..."

Ruby straightened up and dusted off her dress,"I have a fiance."

"Maxwell Hill?" Ronan chuckled, "You don’t even love him."

"That’s not for you to decide."

Ronan towered over her, "You can’t fool me into thinking that you love that scoundrel, Miss Ambrose."

"That’s my fiance you are talking about," Ruby said, coldly.

Ronan’s jaw ticked. Something about her unchanging face as she made the declaration, made him want to prove her wrong.

"Or is it a hobby of yours to chase taken women who are emotionally unavailable?"

Ronan closed the gap between them, till she was completely leaning back on the tree,"The said taken woman who took my virginity on the night of her engagement?"

The reminder of that evening made Ruby flinch and a crack appeared on her face, "I was drunk..."

"So drunk that you landed yourself in another man’s bed, while your so-called fiance was somewhere out there, drinking your engagement wine..."

Ronan stopped speaking as Ruby’s eyes reddened, unshed tears sparkling in them as she looked at him coldly.

Something hit him in the gut and it was suddenly difficult for him to breathe, "Ruby, I..."

"Ruby?"

Ruby froze. When she turned around, she was faced with Max who was standing at a little distance.

"It’s really you!" Max frowned, his gaze shifting between Ruby and Ronan before settling on her, "Who is he?"

Ronan’s gaze scanned across the hickeys peppered around Max’s neck and his eyes narrowed, a vicious glint flashing across the usually charming face.

Ruby paused for a moment before she spoke, "What are you doing here?" She calmly stepped out from the tree.

"Did you forget? Our parents wanted us to go wedding shopping today. When I reached there, the servants told me that you have already left for university. But your father said I can pick you up from here..."

"You are getting married?" Ronan tucked a palm in his pocket as he stepped out of the tree and looked at Ruby, "To this thing?"

He did not even spare Max a glance as if one look at him would sully Ronan’s existence.

Max’s nostril flared, his eyes narrowed, "Ruby, you still haven’t answered my question, have you? Who the hell is he? If you don’t tell me—"

"Ronan, didn’t I ask you to look for me in the classroom? What are you doing here?"

A soft voice interrupted the tense atmosphere.

Everyone turned to look at Ella who approached them, sporting a big smile.

Max’s heart skipped a few beats at the sight of the girl who was dressed in an elegant blue dress. Since she was usually dressed in oversized hoodies, he had failed to notice how much weight she had lost.

’She looks so much more beautiful than the last time... When she smiles, she seems to glow even more...’

Max snapped out of his reverie when Ella stepped past him. Without sparing him a single gaze, Ella approached Ronan.
