The afternoon sun bled softly through the sheer curtains. Ella stirred, her limbs heavy with sleep, her body sore in a way she couldn’t quite place.

When she finally opened her eyes and rolled over, the bed beside her was empty.

She blinked. Then sat up with a jolt. "Crap."

It was past noon.

Rubbing her eyes, she stumbled out of bed and made her way to her own room. Her phone was buried under a pile of clothes.

When she checked it, her screen was flooded with missed calls, most from Esther, one from Ruby, and several from an unknown number.

Ella stared at Ruby’s name for a moment, hesitating. She called back, but it rang endlessly before cutting off.

Did Ruby know about what happened yesterday?

As the thought crossed her mind, Ella ventured through the news section.

There was not a single mention of the Yu Family or anything related to last night’s event. The headlines were filled with celebrity gossip and political speculation.

Her heart slowed. She did not have to think much to know whose handiwork that was.

After sending Ruby a short text, Ella headed into the bathroom. Just as she crossed the mirror, her footsteps halted.
