Chapter 7
Elysia’s POV
Damon looked like he’d been struck by lightning.
“Impossible,” he stammered. “You two… when…”
“Four months ago,” I answered calmly. “Right after I returned to my home pack.”
The blood drained from his face, leaving it a ghastly white. His eyes burned with a wild, cornered fury.
“You… how could you…”
“How could I what?” I raised an eyebrow. “Find a new mate so quickly? Or forget you so quickly?”
“Six years!” he roared. “We had six years of history, and you threw it all away for him?”
“Six years,” I corrected him. “Built on a lie. A magical deception from the very beginning.”
Whispers erupted around the auction hall. The other packs had heard us.
“A Soul-link spell?”
“An Alpha cast a spell on his own Head Beta?”
“Gods, a six-year charade…”
Damon heard the chatter, and his face grew even darker.
“Elysia, you can’t say these things here!”
“Why not?” my voice rose. “Afraid people will see you for who you really are?”
“That’s not true!” he denied frantically, “My feelings were real! The spell was just…”
“Just to make me think we were Fated Mates?” I sneered, “Just to make me give you six years of my life? Just to make me a tool to secure your power?”
The murmuring grew louder.
Damon’s reputation was being destroyed right here, right now.
He realized it and started scrambling to save face,
“I admit I used the spell, but it was because I love you!” he said, his eyes red. “I was afraid you wouldn’t choose me!”
“So you chose to cheat.”
“I chose to fight for you!” his voice cracked with desperation. “Elysia, for six years, we bled together on the battlefield. You were my other half. Does none of that mean anything to you anymore?”
“Good times?” I asked, my voice dripping with scorn. “Tell me, Damon. Which moments were real? Which kiss wasn’t tainted by your lies?”
