Revenge Wears My Ring novel Chapter 105

At that moment, a large, warm suit jacket—still carrying his familiar, crisp scent—settled firmly over her cold, damp shoulders. The weight of it was gentle but left no room for refusal.

Bennett was back.

He held his own coat in his hands, clearly having just retrieved it.

He’d seen Julian’s retreating figure.

Yet he didn’t ask what had happened, nor did he question why Julian had left so suddenly.

Instead, in silence, Bennett gently but resolutely wrapped her in the thick jacket, shielding her from the icy rain and the chill that cut even deeper.

Then his deep voice sounded by her ear, carrying a strange sense of comfort that seemed to pierce through the curtain of rain:

“It’s coming down harder. We should go.”

Gwyneth didn’t resist. She let him draw her close, his arm steady around her shoulders as they turned and walked away from the place that had borne witness to so much sorrow, betrayal, and cold reality.

His black umbrella opened smoothly, sheltering both of them from the relentless rain and wind.

The tiny ripples Julian had stirred up were already being washed away, disappearing into the downpour without a trace.

As they left, Gwyneth’s parents’ photo faced them from the headstone, almost as if watching in silent approval as the distance between them grew.

———

The black sedan cruised steadily over the rain-slicked asphalt, windshield wipers swiping back and forth in a rhythmic battle against the endless sheets of rain. Outside, the world was a blur—neon lights bleeding into glowing halos against the wet glass.

Inside, the air felt thick, as if time itself had stalled.

Gwyneth leaned against the leather seat, her body angled slightly toward the window.

She was still wrapped in Bennett’s oversized jacket. His warmth and clean scent clung to her, chasing away the chill and damp that had seeped in at the cemetery, replacing it with a strange, comforting sense of security.

That warmth allowed her nerves to relax, if only a little. But it also awakened something unfamiliar—a wary sense of dependence she couldn’t quite ignore.

Had he seen Julian just now?

Did he really not care what had happened?

Suddenly—

“SCREEEECH!”

The piercing shriek of brakes tore through the silence, tires skidding hard on wet pavement.

The jolt slammed Gwyneth forward, her body flung violently toward the front seat.

“Watch out!” The driver’s panicked shout was lost in the chaos.
