Revenge Wears My Ring novel Chapter 146

“Answer me.” Bennett’s grip on her chin tightened, his voice cold as ice.

He repeated Julian’s grating promise, his eyes suddenly dangerous. “Tell me, Mrs. Boyd—since when did you become the future Mrs. Locke?”

Gwyneth’s jaw ached under his hold, forcing her to meet the storm of anger and possessiveness in his gaze. For a moment, she felt trapped in the eye of a hurricane.

Flustered, she forced his hand away and replied stiffly, “Look, whatever this is, let’s talk about it at home. Domestic violence is illegal, Mr. Boyd.”

With that, she practically fled the scene.

Behind her, Bennett let out a low, amused chuckle.

There was no anger in that sound—if anything, there was a hint of mischief, even a trace of delight, as if he found her reaction almost… endearing.

Taking a steadying breath, Gwyneth smoothed her hair, fixed her expression, and slipped her flawless social mask back into place. With practiced poise, she walked back into the main hall of the party.

The guests were still chatting and laughing as if nothing had happened.

Soon enough, it was time for dinner.

The Lockes had a long-standing tradition: on birthdays, guests enjoyed a lavish buffet in the main hall, while the core family members retreated to a private, opulent dining room for a real family dinner.

Now, in the Locke family dining room, warm light from a crystal chandelier bathed the polished table, which was set with pristine white linens, gleaming silverware, and fine china.

The atmosphere seemed more harmonious than last time—at least on the surface.

Yale sat at the head of the table, wearing the benevolent smile of a patriarch, fussing over Gwyneth as if she were already family. He asked about her work, her health, her daily life—nothing escaped his attention.

Julian played along, gently serving Gwyneth and watching her with the attentive eyes of a devoted fiancé.

“Gwyneth, just look at how much Julian cares for you.” Yale’s tone was light, but the topic circled back with the weight of inevitability. “You and Julian aren’t getting any younger. Once the wedding’s set, I can finally stop worrying. And our family can welcome its new lady of the house—time for the next generation, don’t you think?”

His words sounded casual, but the pressure behind them was unmistakable.

Julian jumped in immediately, his voice full of certainty and affection. “Don’t worry, Dad. Gwyneth and I have already talked it over. We—”

Just then, the heavy doors of the dining room swung open.

Bennett’s tall figure appeared in the doorway.

He ignored the stares, showing no trace of apology or even the slightest hint that he was late—as if he’d just come back from a stroll in the garden.

With an air of indifference, he walked to his seat—not too close to the head of the table, yet positioned directly across from Gwyneth.
