Revenge Wears My Ring novel Chapter 174

Gwyneth immediately turned to look at him, her eyes brimming with confusion. “Huh?”

Bennett didn’t open his eyes. His lips parted just enough for his words to drift out, catching her off guard.

“You get the day off.”

He paused, then added, “I’m taking you out for something good to eat.”

It wasn’t a command—more like a spontaneous decision.

Gwyneth was surprised, but she flashed him a playful grin and replied quickly, “Well, thank you, Mr. Boyd.”

The car didn’t head toward any glitzy part of town filled with fancy restaurants. Instead, Bennett took a winding route, turning down one street and then another, until they finally stopped in a quiet, somewhat run-down alley.

Ahead was a small courtyard. The old stone wall was streaked and weathered, with green ivy climbing here and there, but the place was spotless and tidy, radiating a simple, welcoming warmth.

As soon as Bennett stepped out, the paint-chipped wooden door of the house creaked open.

A middle-aged couple—probably in their fifties, simply dressed but neat and cheerful—hurried out to greet them.

Their faces glowed with genuine, heartfelt smiles, their eyes fixed eagerly on Bennett.

Instead of speaking, they began signing enthusiastically to him, their hands moving nimbly through the air, faces animated with a silent, joyful welcome.

It clicked for Gwyneth in that moment—they were deaf.

What surprised her even more was the way the icy hardness always etched into Bennett’s features melted away the second he saw the couple. All at once, his defenses thawed like snow in early spring.

He smiled—no, he actually smiled—a gentle, natural curve softening his lips. He lifted his hands and signed back, his gestures smooth and confident, as if he’d been born into this language.

Watching them share this warm, wordless conversation, Gwyneth felt something unfamiliar stir inside her. She had never seen Bennett like this before: without his usual calculated sharpness, free of the heavy weight of his family’s expectations. In this moment, he seemed more like a son returning home, utterly at ease.

Drawing a breath, she tried to mimic one of the simple gestures Bennett had just made, clumsily signing it back toward the couple.

They paused, then their smiles grew even wider. Both nodded enthusiastically, their eyes full of kindness and encouragement. Mrs. Harrison even gave her a big thumbs up.

Bennett watched Gwyneth’s attempt and felt a warmth well up inside him.
