Revenge Wears My Ring novel Chapter 2

“Your period’s over. So, no protection tonight, hmm?”

Under the dim hallway light, Julian’s low, sultry voice was thick with suggestion as he swept the coquettish woman into his arms. He kissed her passionately, carrying her toward the master bedroom.

On the bed, Gwyneth froze, every muscle tense as the unmistakable sounds of their approach grew louder. She held her breath, desperate not to make a sound.

A woman’s breathless voice drifted closer. “Julian, your engagement’s tomorrow. What if Gwyneth finds out?”

Julian’s eyes sparkled with careless charm, but there was a trace of disdain in his tone. “She passes out cold whenever she’s had enough to drink. You’ve got nothing to worry about.”

He punctuated his words with a heartless kick to the bed, right where Gwyneth lay “asleep.” Then, with a casual tilt of his chin, he nodded for Queenie Shaw to come closer, his voice dripping with arrogant certainty.

Pain flared in Gwyneth’s ankle, making her whole body shudder. It felt as if something inside her snapped—clean and irreparable.

She swallowed hard, forcing down the metallic taste that rose in her throat. Burying her face in the pillow, she barely dared to breathe, terrified they’d realize she was only pretending to sleep.

She’d thought Julian might stay out tonight. After all, he sometimes crashed at a friend’s place after a night of drinking.

But nothing could have prepared her for this: her fiancé, just hours from their engagement, not only coming home, but bringing with him the last woman she would ever have suspected.

Queenie.

It was Queenie.

Gwyneth’s eyes filled with tears as humiliation and fury crawled up her spine. She dug her fingernails into her thigh, fighting the urge to sit up and scream at them.

Five years, she’d given Julian everything, loved him with all her heart. Yet not only did he see her as worthless, he’d been cheating on her all along, with Queenie, of all people.

Gwyneth gripped the bedsheet so tightly her knuckles turned white. Shock and hatred made her tremble uncontrollably. Tears slid down her cheeks, but she bit her lip until she tasted blood, refusing to make a sound.

Queenie’s voice chimed in again, sweet and sly.

“So, when are you going to break up with her?”

Julian lifted her easily, his tone relaxed and magnetic. “She’s landed plenty of deals for the company these past years. Once she wraps up this last project, she’s out. Don’t worry. I’ll take care of you. As soon as the transfer papers for Fletcher Group go through, I’ll put her parents’ company in your name.”

Queenie giggled, tracing a finger down Gwyneth’s back. “Then, Julian, I want you. Right here. On her bed.”

Julian smirked, all indulgent affection. “Anything for you, you little minx.”
