“I’m not sure if you’ll like it.”
Like it?
Like... what? A stack of paperwork?
Gwyneth’s mind, still reeling, snapped back at his words. She stared at the thick folder in front of her, a new wave of unease and confusion rising in her chest, stronger than before.
What now?
Was this... was it really that agreement?
She drew a deep breath, trying to steady the tremor in her hands as she reached for the folder. It was heavy. Whatever was inside, it wasn’t trivial.
A knot of bewilderment—and a flicker of nervous anticipation she barely recognized in herself—tightened in her gut as she lifted the cover.
Bold black letters leapt out at her.
**Share Transfer Agreement**
Her eyes darted down the page. “Transferor: Bennett. Transferee: Gwyneth.”
She jerked her hand back as if burned, snapping the folder shut with a sharp, echoing clap. The movement was so abrupt she nearly knocked over her glass of red wine.
She shot to her feet, body unsteady with shock, eyes wide in disbelief as she stared at the man across the table—still seated, unruffled, as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened.
Her voice trembled, barely perceptible beneath the astonishment and confusion. “Are you... are you serious?”
This was no ordinary gift.
This was one of the lifelines of G-B Group. One of the cornerstones of Bennett’s business empire. And he—just like that—wanted to hand it all over to her?
What on earth was he thinking?
Was the company in trouble? Was this some kind of trap? But that couldn’t be—she’d heard no rumors, no bad news. Besides, Bennett’s business was at its peak; everyone knew his name.
Bennett glanced up, meeting her stunned, frantic gaze. His eyes were deep and steady—not a trace of humor or hesitation in them, only an unshakable seriousness.
He nodded once, slow and deliberate, as if each motion added weight to the agreement between them.
Gwyneth felt a chill lance up her spine, clearing the fog of disbelief in an instant.
“No!”
