Revenge Wears My Ring novel Chapter 31

Julian stood in the doorway, his expression unreadable. “Gwyneth, we need to talk.”

At the sound of his voice, Gwyneth quietly slipped the dazzling pink diamond off her finger and tucked it into a drawer in the corner.

She caught Elodie’s eye, giving her a subtle signal. Elodie nodded and quietly left the room.

Julian strode over and sat down on the sofa.

“So, you went to Skyward Taste last night?” His gaze, sharp as a hawk’s behind gold-rimmed glasses, fixed on her.

Gwyneth’s fingers trembled just slightly, but when she looked up, her face held nothing but mild confusion. “Oh, I forgot to mention—I have a small stake in Skyward Taste.”

She picked up her coffee cup with practiced ease. “I was working on the draft for an upcoming share transfer agreement last night.”

Thank goodness she’d managed to acquire some shares in Skyward Taste yesterday. Usually, it was tough to get a piece of that place, but last night’s purchase had gone through without a hitch—and at a bargain, no less. Sometimes fate really does lend a hand.

Julian suddenly leaned forward, his expensive cologne and commanding presence closing in on her. “Funny. Why didn’t I know about this?”

“I wanted it to be a surprise. If you don’t believe me, feel free to check for yourself.” Gwyneth’s face was serene, her tone perfectly unruffled.

For a few seconds, the air was thick with tension.

“Alright, then.”

Maybe he’d been overthinking things.

Gwyneth’s expression shifted, eyes turning a little hurt, though deep down they were ice-cold. “But how did you know I was at Skyward Taste last night? Were you following me?”

Julian’s lips curled into a barely-there smile. “Of course not. A friend mentioned spotting you there.”

He switched on the TV. The screen still displayed that viral photo—the one that had set the internet on fire.

“Did you see that mysterious woman everyone’s talking about last night?” Julian glanced at her, then back at the photo on the screen.

“The restaurant was locked down last night. I could only get into the office, and the security cameras had been disabled. I have no idea who she was.” Gwyneth shook her head, feigning helplessness, her eyes full of innocent curiosity. “Since when are you interested in tabloid gossip anyway?”

Julian stared thoughtfully at the TV, lost in his own thoughts.

“Actually, there’s something else.” He looked back at Gwyneth, producing a document from behind his back.

Those embossed gold letters—TRANSFER ORDER—jumped out at her. Gwyneth’s pupils narrowed. Where was he sending her? Was this just to clear a spot for Queenie?

“My brother just got back to the country. He needs a secretary he can trust.” Julian handed her a pen. “Once you’ve wrapped things up here, report to him.”

“Understood.” Her voice was soft and obedient, so much so that Julian’s scorn faltered for a moment.

He frowned, glanced at his watch, impatience seeping into his tone. “How’s the handover going with Queenie?”

“Almost done. I’ll send it over for her to review. Mr. Grant’s side is covered as well.” A glint of coldness flashed in Gwyneth’s eyes, though her smile only grew brighter.

“Take a look at this.” She picked up the project proposal from the table and handed it to him.

Julian barely glanced at it before pushing it back toward her. “Just give it to her yourself.”

Gwyneth took the file, her fingers brushing lightly across the cover. “Alright.”

Her voice was gentle as her eyes lingered on the bold title—Celestial Group Tower Project Proposal. The corners of her mouth lifted ever so slightly.

Julian studied Gwyneth, so quiet and compliant in front of him, and suddenly felt an inexplicable irritation.

She was too obedient. From the moment he told her to hand her work over to Queenie, to the announcement that she’d be his brother’s secretary, she’d done nothing but nod and say “okay.”

Utterly boring.

“I’ve got a meeting.” Julian grabbed his suit jacket from the sofa, his voice once again cold and commanding. “You’re off the hook for tomorrow’s meeting—let Queenie handle it.”
