He looked back at the crowd egging him on. Shadows deepened in his eyes, swirling like ink—making it seem, just for a moment, as if that kiss really was nothing more than a lost bet.

Meanwhile, upstairs in the lounge’s private suite.

Julian’s fingers nudged the ice ball around in his whiskey glass, the slow clinking sounds barely audible in the dimness.

The lights at Nocturne Spirits were turned down low, catching the edges of his gold-rimmed glasses and throwing off two sharp, cold glints, obscuring the expression in his eyes.

“The loss for Celestial Group needs to be capped at thirty million.” His voice was quiet, but it made Roman, seated across from him, straighten his back instinctively.

Queenie’s scarlet nails skimmed rapidly across her tablet screen before pausing on a line of numbers. “That investment firm in Port Arbora is willing to take over, but they want a twelve percent markdown.”

She glanced up at Julian, lips pressed in a thin line. “If you want to stop the bleeding, that’s our only option.”

Roman wiped the sweat from his brow. “But your father—”

“Don’t mention him. Not a word.”

If his father found out, the consequences would be unimaginable.

Especially now, with his older brother back in the picture, disappointing his father again was not an option.

“Yes, sir.” Roman dropped his gaze, not daring to protest further.

As he stood to leave, a thought struck him. “By the way, I think I just saw your brother in the hallway.”

“What’s he doing here?” Julian blurted out.

“And there was a woman with him—looked pretty young from behind. Must be that mysterious sister-in-law of yours, right?”

Roman nodded. “That’s true.”

In this world, competence trumps everything.

Queenie leaned forward, her eyes gleaming with a strange light. “Julian, I think we should go and meet your brother. We’re family, after all—it’s about time we built some bridges.”

Julian set down his glass. If he could finally meet this elusive sister-in-law tonight, it might prove more interesting than he’d expected.

“Let’s go.” Julian adjusted his cufflinks as he stood. “Time to meet my brother—and his mysterious wife.”

When they reached the VIP section,

Queenie stepped ahead, slipping the server a thick wad of bills. The waiter smiled, then opened the door to the private suite for them…
