Revenge Wears My Ring novel Chapter 74

Queenie looked up at Julian, her eyes brimming with wounded accusation, but this time he didn’t even glance her way. Behind the gold-rimmed glasses, his expression was unreadably calm.

Beneath the table, her hand clenched so tightly that her nails dug deep into her palm. The sharp pain was the only thing anchoring her, keeping her from losing composure.

She couldn’t afford to make a scene here—especially not in front of Yale. But to simply accept this? Not a chance.

Did Julian really think he could just cast her aside so easily?

Dream on.

Gwyneth watched the theatrics unfolding around the room, marveling at her own past naivete. Had she really been so blind to all this?

Inside, she scoffed, though her face remained perfectly composed. Adopting an air of bashful innocence, she said, “Maybe we should let Julian decide.”

Julian was just about to speak when the sharp, hurried click of heels echoed from the foyer.

Everyone’s attention snapped toward the entrance.

Desiree swept in, bold in a striking red dress. On her face, she wore a carefully constructed poise, but a glimmer of smugness slipped through.

Her arrival instantly shifted the atmosphere, making the air feel prickly and strange.

Then, something utterly unexpected happened.

Just moments ago, Queenie had been seething with jealousy on the sofa. Now, as if pricked by a needle, she shot to her feet. Her face twisted into a painfully forced smile, one that tried—and failed—to hide a mix of flattery and fear, as though yesterday’s events had never happened.

Even Julian stepped away from Gwyneth, pasting on a respectful, almost obsequious smile.

In perfect unison, they called out, “Welcome, dear sister-in-law!”

“Sister-in-law?”

A jolt ran through Gwyneth. She struggled to keep her face composed, but her eyes flashed with astonishment. She stared at Desiree. Was Desiree really Julian’s older brother’s girlfriend?

The realization struck Gwyneth like a bolt of lightning.

Desiree was practically glowing as she basked in their respectful greeting. She lifted her chin, barely able to contain her delight.

So Bennett really had told the family about her! Desiree’s heart raced with triumph—this was proof that Bennett acknowledged her place in the Locke family, that she’d secured a status above all others.

She shot Gwyneth a withering glance, as if to say: See? I’m the real mistress of the Locke family. You’re nothing but an outsider, not even married in yet.

Gwyneth quickly forced down the shock roiling inside her.
