Chapter 396
Lila got lucky. The Collins family rescued her not long after she fell into the sea. She survived, but the baby she was carrying I didn’t make it because of the impact.
Angry and heartbroken, Lila ignored how weak and battered she was and went to find Andrew. Instead, she found him with a furious look, choking Emily like he wanted to kill her.
He said, “Lydia overheard your phone call with Lila. You planned a fake kidnapping to trick me. What else do you have to say? If anything happens to Lila, I’ll make you pay with your life!”
At that moment, Lila’s heart felt like it was being ripped apart. She and Emily had grown up by Andrew’s side. He should’ve known what kind of people they were.
But just because Lydia said she “heard it herself”, he blamed them. Thinking back, their fights had grown more frequent over the years. Most times, it wasn’t just about picking sides between Lydia and Emily.
Often, it was just because of Lydia. For example, Lydia once said she loved the birthday gift, and she envied Lila, and Andrew gave the gift to Lydia instead of Lila.
When she wanted Andrew’s attention, Lydia cried and said she wanted Andrew to stay with her. That always pulled him
away.
There were so many moments like this, like thousands of small stones piling up on Lila’s heart all at once. The husband she’d loved since childhood, the steady, smart, honest, and sensible man, was dead to her now.
The cooperation went way smoother than Emily expected. She could even go back the same day. But since she finally met Lila, she didn’t leave so soon. She stayed overseas and spent several days with her.
If it were not for a message from her bodyguard saying the woman Lydia pushed unconscious outside the company had woken up, Emily would’ve loved to stay longer with Lila.
Before leaving, Lila bought her lots of gifts and promised she’d visit if she got the chance. Only then did Emily leave reluctantly.
Right after getting off the plane, Emily didn’t even have time to unpack. She went straight to the hospital to see the woman.
The bodyguard told her that the woman seemed to have some mental problems. She came alone from a remote area.
