Rise of the Warrior Queen (Kaia and Silver) novel Chapter 46

CHAPTER FOURTY SIX

KAIA’S POV

I didn’t stop walking. I couldn’t.

The moment I turned my back on Silver, I let the panic show on my face. My hands wouldn’t stop trembling, and my heartbeat hadn’t slowed down since I saw itthat glow. That impossible flash of silver that wasn’t supposed to exist.

His eyes glowed.

Silver eyes.

Like, what the hell?

I didn’t even care to remember that I was supposed to be heading to the pack house. I didn’t care that the day had already gone far and that I still had a lot to do. I didn’t care that I hadn’t even said goodbye properly or that I had made it obvious that something was wrong. My legs moved on their own, carrying me through the trees, across the path, and up the narrow slope that led to the very edge of the territory.

Straight to Elder Agatha’s house.

I barely even noticed the chill in the air or the wind tugging at my clothes. My mind was a stormthoughts crashing into each other, none of them making sense. How was it possible? How could that happen? It

shouldn’t. It couldn’t. Not unless-

No. No, it wasn’t possible.

I reached the wooden cabin in record time. I didn’t bother to knock. I shoved the door open with both hands

and stormed inside, ignoring the creak of the hinges or the startled flutter of birds outside.

Agatha!I shouted, slamming the door behind me as I stepped fully into the living room. Agatha, we’ve got to talk! Something is happening! I swear there’s something haunting this pack that we don’t know of!

Elder Agatha was right there on the faded green sofa, a shawl wrapped loosely around her shoulders, her legs curled to one side, a cup of tea cradled in her hands. Her hair was tied into a loose bun, and though she still looked pale and tired from her injury on the night of the eclipse, her eyes were as sharp as ever.

She blinked up at me, slowly setting her cup down on the table. Kaia-?

There’s no time for greetings, Elder,” I said quickly, pacing back and forth in front of her. I need answers.

Now. Please. Because I’m starting to think I’m losing my mind.

She raised a brow, calm as ever. What happened?

It’s Silver. I saw something. In his eyes,I said, my voice rising without meaning to. Not figuratively. Literally.

Like I saw itAgatha, his eyes glowed. Like silver fire, just for a second. Likelike moonlight trapped inside him, flickering through his pupils. It wasn’t a reflection. It wasn’t a trick of the light. I know what I saw.

She tilted her head. The young man’s eyes glowed?

Yes!I practically shouted. And not just glowedsilver. Bright, glowing silver. This hasn’t happened before, Agatha. I’ve never seen his eyes like that before. But then this morning it justElder, tell mehow is that possible? Is it even possible? I mean, he doesn’t even have his wolf yet, so why would something like that

even happen? And even if he did have his wolfthere’s no such thing! No wolf in existence has silver eyes!

None! So howhow?

My hands moved erratically as I spoke, words spilling out in a rush of confusion and urgency. I mean, it’s not like I imagined it! I saw it, Agatha. I saw it with my own eyes. It happened right in front of me. I need you to tell me how this is possible. I need you to tell me what it means.”

For a long time, Agatha didn’t say anything. She simply stared at me, her face unreadable, her fingers slowly curling around the edge of her shawl. Then she gave a small sigh, leaning back into her seat.

It’s not possible,she said softly.

I stopped pacing, my heart sinking. Exactly.

Butshe added, her voice dropping into something heavier, almost haunted, that doesn’t mean it’s

impossible.

I stared at her. Okay, now you lost me. It’s not possible. But at the same time, it’s not impossible? What does

that even mean now, Elder?!

She looked down at the cup in her hands, like she was debating whether or not to say more. Then she nodded

to herself and looked up at me again.

There was a time,” she began, many, many years agolong before you or I were born, when something like

this was rumored to have existed. A bloodline, Kaia. A very old and very rare one. Most believed it to be a

myth, even back then. But there were stories. Quiet ones. Hidden. Whispers passed from one generation to

another.

What kind of bloodline?I asked breathlessly.

She looked at me. One born under a special alignment of moon and fire. A descendant of both light and shadow. Wolves born from this bloodline were said to be differentpowerful. Not just physically or magically, but spiritually. Spirit wolves, some called them. Others called them Moontouched. Their eyesglowed silver

when their emotions surged. A mark of the divine. A direct touch from the Moon Goddess herself.”

My mouth opened, then closed. I couldn’t find the right words. You mean?

Agatha shook her head before I could finish the thought. I’m not saying he is one of them. I’m only telling you what I know. Or what I’ve heard, anyway. No one alive has ever seen one. Not truly. If any ever existed, their bloodline has long since disappearedor gone into hiding.

ButI rubbed my temples, my voice shaky. You’re saying it’s possible?

She shrugged. As possible as anything else that’s happened lately. Tell me, Kaiadid the eyes glow only when he was angry?

I paused. Yes. Yes, he was angry. Frustrated. As a matter of fact this was the first time I’d seen him this

angry. But not because of me. He was talking about how he might never get his memories back. And then it happened. Just like that. Andand to make things even more strange, he doesn’t even know. He didn’t seem to notice when it happened. I was the one who saw it. He kept asking me what happened, Agatha. He doesn’t know!

I didn’t even know why I was screaming.

I was just so freaked out at the new discovery that I didn’t even know how to handle it.

Agatha nodded slowly. Emotion triggers power. Especially rare power, it’s not unheard of. But for someone

without a wolf to show that kind of surge

Her voice trailed off again, and she looked lost in thought.

My brain was spinning now. I felt like I was sitting on a roller coaster. I grabbed my head with both hands and shook it. I don’t understand. If he is from that bloodlineOh, goddess. Why won’t his stupid memory just come back, for goodnesssake?! It could save us a lot of trouble. Why hasn’t his wolf returned? What kind of

wolf abandons its human for this long?!

Maybe he doesn’t remember because someone doesn’t want him to. Maybe his wolf is asleep for a reason, Kaia. Sealed. Hidden. Or maybeShe paused, her eyes narrowing thoughtfully. Maybe he was never meant to stay hidden. Maybe he’s waking up now because somethingor someoneis calling to him. You said it yourself, this is the first time it’s happened. Maybe finally, after all these years, the time has arrived

I stared at her, still completely lost. You think someone’s manipulating his memory. You don’t think his memory loss is of natural cause. You think someone’s stopping him from remembering who he really is

The elder shook her head slowly. No, Kaia. I do not think. I know.”

I shook my head. Buthow do we know who?

She met my eyes. We don’t. Not yet.

I felt helpless. Suspicion burned at the back of my mind like a thorn I couldn’t pull out. Was Silver more than

who he thought he was? More than any of us knew?

And if he was

And if he was, then who the hell is stopping him from remembering?

Butwhy would anyone do something like this?I asked, and Agatha’s lips pulled into a slow smile.

She reached down and picked up her mug, taking a sip of her herbal tea before slowly setting it back on the

table.

And then she turned to me and spoke.

Because if that man ever remembers who he truly is, he could become their worst nightmare.
