She Died With My Name on Her Lips novel Chapter 10

“Louisa! Wake up! You can’t just die—I haven’t even forgiven you yet!”

Stephen’s eyes were bloodshot, his voice rough and broken, edged with something wild. Grief crashed over him, heavy and suffocating, making every breath feel like shards of glass cutting his lungs. His chest ached so much it felt like his heart was being ripped apart.

He pulled her into his arms, holding her so tightly he almost wished he could pull her into his very bones, just to keep her with him somehow.

Tears slid down his cheeks, warm at first, then cold, falling onto Louisa’s lifeless body.

But she was ice cold—so cold it seeped straight into his skin, into his soul. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t warm her up. She was gone.

Stephen’s whole world felt like it froze over. His blood ran cold. Louisa would never come back. The last person he cared about was gone, just like that. Whatever hope he had left for living was gone too. All that remained was darkness—endless, crushing darkness with not a single ray of light.

“Louisa, you really are heartless,” he whispered, his eyes rimmed red, his smile twisted and more painful than tears. His gaze was empty, dead inside.

“You just left me here. You got your peace, but what am I supposed to do now? If you had to go, why didn’t you take me with you? Why leave me alone in this world?”

“What happened before—I’m not even mad about it anymore, okay? Please, Louisa, just come back. Just open your eyes and look at me. We can forget everything, start over, live like nothing ever happened. I’m begging you… just give me one more chance…”

His words spilled out, desperate and frantic, as he cradled her cold, silent body.

But Louisa was gone. She’d fallen into an endless sleep, and nothing he said could bring her back.

After a long while, Stephen let out a hollow, broken laugh, his eyes shining with pain.

“Is this what you want? For me to follow you? Should I come with you, Louisa? Maybe it’s better if everything just ends here.”
