Sabrina watched the scene unfold, a mocking smirk curling on her lips.
“I always thought the young master of the Watson Group could move mountains. Turns out, you’re not so different from everyone else.”
With that, she turned to leave.
“Hold it right there! Who says I can’t do it?” Hector, stung by her taunt, couldn’t resist rising to the challenge.
It was just a plot of land, after all. If there was one thing he never lacked, it was money. There was nothing in this world he couldn’t accomplish.
“That land is mine. Whatever terms you want, talk to my father. We’ll work it out.”
Hector’s offer clearly tempted Marshall. The Harper family had been working to expand their business overseas for years.
If they could forge a connection with the Watson family, the benefits were obvious. With such an ally, overseas ventures would be within easy reach.
As for why Sabrina had suddenly wagered the Goldcrest District, perhaps it was just a spur-of-the-moment move. From the way she’d paused earlier, she didn’t seem to have planned it in advance—more likely, she was just trying to outdo Hector.
Marshall’s mind was made up. This deal was all upside for the Harpers.
Sabrina could see the bait had been taken.
Now, all she needed was to make sure the deal between the Watsons and the Harpers never actually happened.
Knowing Marshall’s fondness for high-stakes card games, Sabrina added, “If Hector has any friends who enjoy a little risk, why not let them join in? Whoever puts up the most tempting wager might just sway his decision.”
The thrill-seeking Hector perked up at the suggestion, clapping his hands. “That’s brilliant! Why didn’t I think of it? I can beat you—and anyone else who wants to try. The more the merrier!”
