She could hardly wait to see Sabrina streaking across campus.
A million dollars? That was just pocket change compared to what was really at stake. The only thing she cared about was humiliating Sabrina in front of the entire school—making sure she’d never be able to show her face in Port City again.
Once that happened, Celine would strike while the iron was hot, pushing Sabrina further. Who knew? Maybe she’d crack under the pressure and finally do something drastic.
If Sabrina really dared to run naked, there was no way her parents would ever let her set foot in the Sutton family home again. Her father cared too much about reputation; he’d never tolerate such a disgraceful daughter.
The more she thought about it, the more excited she became, a glimmer of triumph sparkling in her eyes.
But suddenly, a memory surfaced—Sabrina winning that bet against Hector. A flicker of unease crept into Celine’s mind.
Sabrina had been so calm—too calm. Was something off?
Her gaze earlier had been steady, unflinching. She hadn’t looked the least bit cornered or embarrassed by their scheme. Was someone as composed as Sabrina really foolish enough to fall into their trap?
But then, the results were right there in black and white: 150 points. No denying that.
“My sister knew perfectly well she wouldn’t do well on the test—so why’d she accept the bet?” Celine put on a mask of worried helplessness.
“She’s just too stubborn,” someone replied quickly. “She couldn’t stand losing face, not after what we said to her. You know how proud she is; people do crazy things when their pride’s on the line…”
. . .
Two days later.
After school, Sabrina stopped by “The Afterlife”, the bar where Jenna now worked. She wondered if Jenna was settling into her new job.
Sabrina was a VIP here. Faye, the owner, had made it clear: Sabrina was like family—her actual sister, even. To the staff, that meant Sabrina was basically the bar’s second boss.
