“You can think that if you want.” Sabrina set down her fork, feeling pleasantly full after dinner—though the company across from her was proving a bit too talkative.
Bryce stared at her, momentarily speechless. Did she have to be so blunt?
“Hey, come on, give me a little credit. We’ve at least shared a meal, haven’t we? Next time you come to Siren’s Club, just drop my name. You’ll be treated like a VIP.”
He radiated an easy self-confidence, the kind that made it obvious he was way too interested in games of chance.
“I’ll pass. Your name’s a bit… flashy. You don’t exactly blend in, you know?”
She stopped herself before saying he had the social subtlety of a teenager—nothing like the polished heirs she’d met in the more exclusive circles.
Bryce caught the odd look she gave him and her barely veiled critique. He bristled. “Sabrina, what’s that supposed to mean? How am I flashy?”
She just waved it off, as if stating an undeniable fact.
Bryce glanced over at a group of beefy guys not far away. Okay, maybe she had a point. He wasn’t exactly low-profile.
When Sabrina stood and gathered her things, Bryce jumped up too, eager to keep the conversation going. There were so many things he still wanted to ask—like, had she really won Hector’s chips, or was that just a rumor? Was she the one behind that infamous schoolyard fight?
But before he could get a word in, Sabrina was already at the door.
“Mr. York, I’ll be going now.” She said it without looking back.
“Wait, let me give you a ride.” Bryce scrambled for any excuse to prolong the evening, but in reality, their connection began and ended with this dinner.
“No need.” Faye had already arranged everything. All Sabrina had to do was call her driver, and he’d be waiting at the curb.
Bryce couldn’t hide his disappointment but managed to step forward politely, fishing for her contact info.
“If you don’t want to give it, that’s fine. I have other ways of finding it.” He kept talking, launching into some story about Creamy Ricotta as if he could win her over by sheer persistence.
