Liana shot him a cold glance, genuinely surprised that such a young boy would dare try to manipulate her.
Noticing a shift in her mood—she didn’t seem nearly as angry as before—Lennox pressed on.
“It’s not like I’m really your son or anything. A fortune teller once told me I’d meet someone important in my life. That person would take me in as their godson, and I’d bring luck to their children, their finances—even their marriage.”
He spun his story with utter confidence. “Do you know why Yvette’s mom wanted me to stay with her?”
Liana’s curiosity was piqued; she had been longing for a child, after all, and she wanted to know the reason behind that woman’s decision to keep Lennox close.
“Why?”
He leaned in, lowering his voice conspiratorially. “Because I’m lucky for important people. She’s always wanted to adopt me, but I refused. The fortune teller said my benefactor’s last name would be Stone, and her last name isn’t Stone. So I turned her down. Is your last name Stone? Because if it isn’t, I can’t be your son either.”
He’d been fully awake before she’d thrown the water on him and had heard someone call her Liana Stone with his own ears.
She was a Stone.
A faint, amused smile tugged at Liana’s lips. “Is that so? Seems your fate is pretty special, then.”
Lennox swallowed hard. This woman wasn’t as easy to fool as he’d hoped.
“I’m not making it up. If you take me in, maybe you’ll find yourself expecting a child as soon as next month.”
Liana didn’t really believe him, but the mention of a child growing inside her next month stirred something hopeful and wistful in her heart.
Yes. They really were about to have a child of their own. Maybe, just maybe, she’d be pregnant next month.
With that thought, Liana spun on her heel and hurried upstairs.
Down in the living room, Lennox let out a silent sigh of relief. He crouched down and wrapped Yvette in a protective hug.
“Don’t be scared, Yvette. I’m here. I won’t let anyone hurt you.”
A few minutes later, noises drifted down from upstairs.
At that moment, Cyrus was completely overwhelmed, lost in a haze of desire. The effects of the drug were at their peak, and the moment Liana walked in, she began undressing without a word.
