It was obvious, at a glance, who truly held sway in the Sutton family.
Celine dangled her wrist, showing off the brand-new bracelet she’d just bought, a smug smile on her lips. “Grandma will be joining us for lunch later,” she announced.
How eager they were for her to stay! With Celine’s personality, she wouldn’t be acting so humble unless she had some grand surprise up her sleeve.
Fine, if they wanted to play, Sabrina was happy to join in.
If she happened to stir up trouble at the birthday party—well, now, wouldn’t that be interesting?
Sabrina almost found herself looking forward to it.
Celine, thrilled that Sabrina agreed to stay, walked gracefully up to the stage. She took the microphone in hand, her voice sweet as honey as she addressed the room.
“Hello, everyone! Thank you so much for coming to my birthday party.”
With that gentle, elegant smile, Celine radiated the poise of a well-bred young lady.
“Please, make yourselves at home. Treat this place as your own—everyone here is a friend, so feel free to mingle and get to know each other. I’ll raise my glass—coffee for now, since it’s early—and toast to you all. Cheers!”
She downed her champagne in one go.
Thunderous applause shook the hall. Everyone agreed—Celine was the picture of grace and beauty.
The old rumors about her had faded with time. Sure, some people occasionally remembered the episodes where she’d barked like a dog or run around the schoolyard in a Ninja Turtles costume, but today was her birthday. Everyone was happy to let bygones be bygones.
No one was in the mood for gossip.
Still, in the corners of the room, some guests whispered quietly.
Sabrina held her glass—just some soda, untouched—and let her gaze rove around the room. She met Uliana’s eyes for a brief moment, then looked away, feigning indifference.
