Hester strode toward Octavia, stopping just inches from her. Her eyes were cold as ice, burning with hatred.

“You’re not looking so well, are you?” she sneered, her tone mocking. “Don’t you dare die on me yet. I want you alive to watch every last member of the Sutton family perish before your eyes. I want you to suffer until you wish for death. I want you to know shame so deep you can never face the Sutton family’s ancestors.”

Her words were venomous, each syllable laced with malice. “You old witch, all of this is your doing. There’s no one else to blame!” Her voice was barely above a whisper, yet it sent a chill crawling over Octavia’s skin, so cold it made her bones ache.

“The whole Sutton family has fallen because of you. What more could you possibly want? I never owed you a thing. And still, you found it in you to be this cruel. I hate you for it!” Octavia’s face was streaked with tears, her voice raw and broken.

Regret twisted inside her—a regret sharp enough to cut. She bitterly wished she had never taken Hester in. No matter how much she had given, it was never enough for someone like her. Over the years, she’d poured millions into Hester’s upbringing—her education, clothes, allowance, every need met without question.

Her inheritance alone was enough for Hester to live comfortably for a lifetime. Even if she’d given the majority shares and her platinum credit card to Sabrina, she’d still left Hester with more than enough: properties, cars, even a company overseas turning a tidy profit. Octavia had planned to leave it all to her.

Never in her wildest nightmares had she imagined the girl she’d raised would turn out to be so vicious. A wolf in sheep’s clothing. She had to change her will—Hester couldn’t have a single penny.

Octavia clung to the last shreds of her strength. She couldn’t collapse. She couldn’t die—not yet, not now.

“Help! Somebody, help!” she shouted, her voice echoing desperately through the locked room.
