Amelia’s pov

The pain I felt was unbearable. Giovanni….. the man I thought was my father for the longest, the man who cared for me like he

was…..was now dead.

Burnt.

Murdered.

By my close friend, or who I thought was my close friend, Pickett.

I watch as she moves out of the shadows of the trees, her trembling hands, her legs that look like they could barely hold her weight up right now. I really, truly watch her.

She doesn’t look like Pickett anymore. She doesn’t look like her normal self. Not with those wild eyes that showed fear and terror in their depths.

I killed him,her words rung in my ears like a sharp irritating alarm.

Mate! That word snaps through the air sharply, even sharper than the sound of the sparkling fire. Damon. His mate was the very friend who killed Giovanni, his uncle.

Damon’s snarl was so raw, so full of pain, so full of acid that it didn’t sound like how Raiden said it to me with passion. No. It sounds like a curse.

Pickett’s wild eyes stray to him, widening. I am not sure if it was with terror, shock or perhaps both. But she looked like she had seen a ghost.

However the next words that tumble out of her mouth made everyone gasp, including me. I will never lay with one of you dogs.

Her eyes skit over to me, wild and untamed, cold. I will never be her. She’s the true murderer here.

Raiden releases a growl, his hands that were wrapped around me and protecting me gripped me harder.

Pickett laughed as if the warning growl from Raiden didn’t rile fear into her at all. Damon takes a step forward, though his eyes are ablaze with hatred, I saw the flicker of hurt in them. No one had expected Pickett to be the one who killed Giovanni.

You murdered my blood yet the moon goddess chained me to you,Damon said bitterly. I would rather reject you-

As his words snarls through the air, suddenly something else whips harder, fastermore brutal.

The gasp that leaves Pickett lips is sharp and stunned. Her eyes bulge, lips parted as if she wanted to gasp once more or say something. But no words came out, only a choked sound.

Then I saw it, the blood curling on her shirt. Right in her chest, so close to her heart is an arrow. For a moment, silence, her eyes darting between us as if she couldn’t fathom what has just happened to her.

PickettI whisper, my voice cracking and weak. My hands trembled, hell my entire body trembled as I am torn between going to her or recoiling back. She was a murderer….but she had also been my friend.

How can I go to her when she killed Giovanni? How can I even care for her when she blatantly showed no remorse for what she had done?

I watch her knees buckle and as if on instinct, Damon surges forward but pauses mid way. I can see the look of agony on his face, ripped from helping her and hatred. He was clearly having an internal turmoil and I don’t blame him cause I was to.

Someone shot an arrow!Raiden’s mom yelled. Find whomever! Now!She blasted and the wolves scattered into the trees at her command.

My eyes remain on Pickett, her body swaying, her eyes now droopy, the blood now curling on her lips. Then her knees gave out completely and I watch as this time Damon doesn’t hesitate and catches her before she falls to her knees.

Damon grip is harsh, his arms wrapped around her like he hated himself for going to her. Loathed himself for even caring. I understood his inner turmoil. I understood him.

Raiden,I gasped, uncertain of what we should do. The side that remembered the shy calm girl wanted Raiden to help her but there was also a side that felt betrayed, stabbed in the back. She killed Giovanni, I should not feel any remorse.

Yet I do.

Hospital, now,Raiden commanded and the air grows tense. His tone had been so sharp, so dominating, I don’t doubt his power. Not when I can feel it tremble through the air.

Get her to the pack hospital, his mother added, agreeing with her son.

Most of the wolves hesitate, unsure, their gazes shifting between Pickett limp body in Damon’s tight hold and Raiden. Their eyes said it all. Pickett didn’t deserve to live. They wanted her to die.

One was bold enough to reply. She killed Giovanni. She deserves to die.

Raiden’s body grew even more tense behind me and I stiffen. I say who deserves to live or die. She knows something we don’t, and if we are to find out, we need her to live. Can any one of you speak to the dead?
