Chapter 464
Carol frowned. “No way. One of my closest friends is holding her concert around that time. I already promised to be her guest performer.”
Her brother, Jim Fraser, was known for his domineering nature.
“It it’s Melanie, just cancel. But if it’s Ginny…” He paused, as if realizing this might be trickier than he thought.
“Go with Ginny’s schedule as your priority. But their concerts might not even fall on the same day. Just consider it a gesture. Make an appearance at Carter’s girlfriend’s concert, play one piece, and leave. That’s enough.”
Carol let out a snort. “Pass this on to Carter for me: stealing his ex-wife’s guest performer just to please his mistress-using threats, no less-doesn’t he find that disgusting?”
Jim froze. “Ex-wife? Mistress?”
She sneered, “Carter’s ex-wife is one of my best friends. She gave up her career to be a stay-at-home wife for him. Who knew that ungrateful bastard had the audacity to cheat with a mistress. They’re divorced now. She’s finally rebuilding her life, and she invited me to perform at her concert. (1)
“And now you’re asking me to turn my back on my best friend to support the woman who broke up her marriage?”
Jim didn’t speak for a long time. Even someone as pragmatic as he was couldn’t come up with a shameless excuse after hearing that.
If it had been a stranger’s request, he might’ve pushed for her to skip Sharon’s concert. But asking her to stand onstage for the woman who helped destroy her friend’s marriage?
No matter how overbearing Jim could be, this wasn’t something he could demand without crossing a line.
Besides, Carol and Ginny were very close. The Fraser family had benefited immensely from that connection over the years. There was no need to risk angering Carol over something like this.
His tone softened. “Carol, this whole thing puts me in a tough spot. Why don’t you… talk to Ginny? If she steps in, I doubt Carter
would press us any further.”
Everyone in Carol’s family was driven by profit. When Carol had insisted on studying music, no one had supported her. They
called her rebellious and cut off her finances.
The only one who had helped her, quietly, behind the scenes was Jim.
That was why she’d said so much to him now.
And now that Jim was running the Fraser Group, Carol couldn’t bring herself to make things any harder for him than necessary.
She sighed. “All right. I’ll ask Ginny.”
At Sharon’s studio, the group had gathered.
As soon as they sat down, they brought up the situation-Carter’s attempt to recruit them as guest performers.
When the story was laid bare, they exchanged looks.
Melanie was the first to speak. “Sharon, you’re like a really wooly sheep. Your ex-husband’s been milking you dry. He’s practically ripped all the wool off your back.” 1
Carol muttered, “How is the world this small? Of all people, that mistress had to find us? And of course, she’s not on good terms

with Sharon.”
Ginny said, “It’s not that surprising. She values our names, our backgrounds, and we attended the same university. Besides…”
Wendy asked, “Besides what?”
Ginny glanced at them. “If Sharon weren’t involved, would either of you have said no?”
Silence.
Melanie and Carol couldn’t answer.
They’d grown up in wealthy families. Their lives had always been gilded, and with that came certain responsibilities.
If Sharon hadn’t been in the picture, they probably wouldn’t have refused.
All three turned to look at Sharon. “Sharon, what do you want to do?”
Sharon didn’t pretend to be aloof or noble. These were friends she had known for years.
“I’ve already burned that bridge with them,” she said. “There’s no way I’m letting them take anything else from me.”
