Chapter 535
“Does Carter know that you’re a member of the Kalen family?” Xavier asked.
Sharon shook her head. “No, he doesn’t.”
She then recounted how Carter had first met Victoria.
Xavier let out a soft chuckle.
“If he and Victoria are on good terms, it’s entirely possible something unexpected could happen with the concert’s special guest list. Given the close ties between the Kalen and Blakely families, all it would take is a word. And Ginny, even as the Blakely family’s eldest daughter, still answers to the family’s will.”
Sharon smiled faintly. “If he’s willing to cash in such a huge favor just for Kelly, then so be it. That position on the guest list isn’t worth much. But if they use that favor to undermine me during the concert… now that would be a problem.”
“You have Uriah’s support,” Xavier said. “I doubt they’d go that far.”
But Sharon wasn’t so optimistic. “Cole from the Malcolm family has been watching me like a hawk. I heard from Abby that Cole’s uncle also seems quite fond of Victoria. You know the saying, ‘the enemy of my enemy is a friend’. They might even team up to help Kelly.”
She had never harmed anyone. Yet the mere fact that she now stood as the Kalen family’s daughter was seen as a sin in their
eyes.
Xavier said, “Sharon, Kelly has Carter, Victoria has Cole and the others… But don’t forget, you have us.”
Sharon’s heart trembled softly. A quiet warmth spread through her chest.
She nodded firmly. “You’re right. I still have you guys.”
Meanwhile, the Hendricks family estate was ablaze with lights.
Nate’s wails echoed through the villa.
“Ahh! Dad, stop! Please, it hurts!”
Karl, chest heaving with rage, struck again with the whip in his hand. “It hurts? Good! Maybe that’ll teach you a lesson, you disgrace! I’ll beat the foolishness right out of you!” 1
The whip lashed across Nate’s back, sending him writhing on the floor in agony.
Nate’s mother, heartbroken, burst into tears at the sight. She rushed over, trying to grab her husband’s arm. “Stop it! Please, that’s enough! Nate didn’t mean it. How could he have known that man was Uriah?”
Karl yanked his arm free and shoved her aside. “You coddled him into this! You’ve turned him into a reckless, entitled brat! Because of him, the Hendricks Group is on the brink of destruction!”
Nate’s mother wiped her tears, her voice full of grievance. “How is this my fault? You used to praise Nate for having a good personality, for becoming close with Carter and Julliard. And as for offending Uriah… this whole mess started with Kelly, Carter’s first love! Carter and Kelly are the ones truly to blame!”
Karl let out a cold laugh. “So you want to burn the bridge with Carter too? Go ahead! Go confront him! Drive away the last person who might still be willing to help us. Let’s see who’ll come to our rescue then.”
Nate’s mother dared not say another word.

Still fuming, Karl landed a few more lashes on Nate, though his strength was waning. Even so, it wasn’t enough to vent his fury.
His voice was icy as he declared, “Starting tomorrow, you will be removed from all positions in the Hendricks Group. Luther will take over full control.”
He shot a piercing glare at Nate. “And one more thing, if you dare go near Sharon again, don’t blame me for disowning you.”
With that, he tossed the whip to the ground and stormed off.
He had always known Nate wasn’t cut out to run a company. If not for Carter and Julliard’s support, he’d never have handed the reins to Nate in the first place.
Nate wasn’t his only son. Why should all his hopes be pinned on a fool like him?
