“In a few more years, once life has taught her a few hard lessons, she won’t be so naïve anymore,” Maestro Warner said.

The elevator doors slowly parted. Just as Sharon was about to step in, a figure rushed out in a hurry.

“Wendy?” Sharon blinked in surprise. “Where are you rushing off to?”

Right then, another tall, lean figure emerged from the elevator.

Thomas spoke, “Wendy tried calling you, but she couldn’t get through. She checked your car’s location and saw it hadn’t moved for a long time. She was worried something might’ve happened to you and was about to go look for you.”

Wendy finally relaxed when she saw Sharon safe and sound.

“I got news about that painting of yours,” she said. “I wanted to call and tell you right away, but no matter how many times I tried, your phone just wouldn’t connect. It’s pouring outside. I was really scared something had happened to you!”

Sharon pulled out her phone and saw that it had shut off at some point. The battery was completely drained. She’d been so busy lately that she must’ve forgotten to charge it last night.

“I’m fine,” she reassured them. “My car broke down on the road.”

Thomas’s eyes fell on the jacket draped over her shoulders.

“How did you get back?”

Sharon didn’t hide anything. “I ran into Carter and Kelly on the way. They gave me a lift.”

She briefly recounted what had happened.

Wendy muttered under her breath, “Ugh, what rotten luck.”

Then she quickly said to Sharon, “Sharon, go upstairs and take a hot shower. Don’t catch a cold.”

“Got it.”

Back at the studio, Sharon pushed open the door to her private lounge, picked out a fresh change of clothes, and headed to the

shower.

When she stepped out, a steaming bowl of ginger soup was waiting on the table.

A soft warmth spread in her chest.

Wendy was always this thoughtful.

Sharon finished the soup in one long sip and felt the heat chasing away the lingering chill.

As she exited the lounge, she saw Wendy holding a few sheets of paper, discussing something with Thomas.

She walked over. “Wendy, thanks for the ginger soup.’

Wendy looked up with a smile. “I didn’t make it. Thomas did.”

“Thomas?” Sharon turned to Thomas, visibly surprised.

Thomas explained, “There isn’t much for me to do around the studio. I eat your food, live under your roof, and still draw a paycheck. It’s been weighing on me a little. Wendy was thinking of hiring you a personal assistant anyway. I’ve got free time, so I can take care of these little things.”

Sharon considered this for a moment, then nodded lightly.

“In that case, I’ll trouble you with it.”

When people have too much free time, they tend to overthink. It wasn’t a bad idea to give Thomas something to keep him busy.

Not dwelling on it, Sharon turned back to Wendy. “You said there’s news about the painting?”

Wendy nodded and handed over the papers in her hand.

“Sharon, take a look, see if it’s the one you painted.”

Sharon studied the documents for a few seconds. Her eyes lit up.

“That’s it! Where is it now?”

“It’s set to go up for auction next weekend,” Wendy said.

“Auction?” Sharon was taken aback. “Why would it end up at an auction?”

Wendy handed her another document. “See for yourself.”

Sharon read for a while, and the shock on her face deepened.

Cole burst into an office in the Malcolm Group’s headquarters, brimming with excitement.

“Uncle Lex! There’s news about the painting you were looking for!”
