Chapter 582
The air inside the car seemed to freeze for a moment.
Sharon’s words had been nothing short of arrogant-blatantly so. She hadn’t spared Kelly even a shred of regard.
Even Maestro Warner, who had initially chosen to stay out of the younger generation’s quarrel, couldn’t help but frown.
He turned to Sharon, his tone layered with meaning.
“Sharon, talent and strength aren’t everything. I’ve seen many gifted musicians fail to perform to their potential in competitions due to all sorts of external factors. Some are so affected by setbacks, they never recover. Others, though less talented, stumble upon the right opportunities and eventually rise to the top.”
He paused before adding, “Sometimes, luck is also a form of strength.”
Sharon understood what he was implying.
He was suggesting that although Kelly lacked ability, meeting him had been the start of her ‘good fortune’. And while Sharon might possess true skill, her future achievements could very well fall short in comparison.
She smiled, unfazed.
“With all due respect, Maestro Warner, I can’t entirely agree with your view.”
It was rare for someone to contradict him to his face. Maestro Warner narrowed his eyes. “Oh? And what is your perspective?”
Sharon brushed the droplets from her hair and replied with a calm smile, “If a musician’s performance can be so easily thrown off by external circumstances, then in my opinion, that just shows their talent and ability weren’t all that solid to begin with. I don’t deny that luck can play a part, but when true strength is in play, even the best luck eventually runs out.”
Maestro Warner’s icy blue eyes narrowed, the chill in his gaze unmistakable as it landed on her.
From the front passenger seat, Kelly sat frozen, still processing what she’d just heard.
Sharon had actually dared to speak so brazenly in front of Maestro Warner.
Did she even understand who he was?
Even the most elite families like the Malcolms and Kalens would treat him with deep reverence.
With Uriah and the Kalen family backing her, Sharon had clearly become so inflated she couldn’t tell north from south anymore.
Kelly sneered inwardly. The more Sharon offended Maestro Warner, the better. No matter how powerful her connections were, in terms of professional standing, Maestro Warner’s authority still reigned supreme.
Sharon would pay for this, sooner or later.
After a long silence, Maestro Warner finally spoke again.
“Very well. I’ll be watching to see how your so-called talent and strength manage to crush all obstacles.”
Sharon smiled but said nothing more.
Throughout the exchange, Carter had remained silent.
But Sharon wasn’t the least bit worried about offending Maestro Warner.
The moment he accepted Kelly as his student, she had understood-they were destined to stand on opposite sides.
It wasn’t hard to sense the prejudice in his demeanor from the few times they’d met. And she had no doubt where it came from:
1/2
Kelly.
Kelly had mastered the art of playing the victim, and people naturally gravitated toward sympathy for the weak.
With Kelly whispering in his ear, it was only a matter of time before Maestro Warner stood against her.
So why should she hold her tongue?
Carter drove Sharon to her studio.
“Thank you,” she said as she stepped out of the car and left.
Only after she was gone did Carter finally speak.
“Maestro Warner, please don’t take Sharon’s words to heart. She’s always been direct.”
There was no emotion on Maestro Warner’s face-no anger, no amusement.
“It’s only natural for the young to be proud. They haven’t yet tasted the bitterness of the world.”
