Side Chick Era Over (Sharon and Carter) novel Chapter 588

Chapter 588

Wendy couldn’t help but exclaim, “Victoria has close girlfriends?”

Xavier raised an eyebrow. “Why wouldn’t she? Her circle of friends are all heiresses from elite families. None of them fall short in looks or talent compared to her.”

“None of them fall short?” Wendy sounded surprised. “I thought someone like Victoria, who’s so hyped up as the top socialite, would never surround herself with people who might outshine her.”

Casey asked curiously, “Why not?”

“Because people compare,” Wendy replied. “A flower needs plain leaves to set it off. Especially someone like her, who craves status — if her friends were more outstanding than she is, she’d have a hard time holding onto her ‘top socialite’ title.”

Xavier chuckled. “You’re not wrong. Many wealthy young women choose to befriend those a notch below them, so they appear superior by contrast. But Victoria doesn’t. Do you know why?”

Before Wendy could respond, Sharon spoke up.

“Because she’s confident enough in herself.”

Xavier nodded. “Exactly. She believes in her worth. No matter how exceptional her friends are, she trusts that she won’t be

overshadowed.

“Besides, your friends reflect your taste. If this so-called number one socialite surrounded herself with people who lacked beauty or pedigree, others would just assume she had poor judgment. On the other hand, impressive friends only elevate her own image and add to her prestige.

“She has three more close friends, and from what I’ve heard, they’re all quite remarkable.”

John suddenly asked, “Is Abby one of them?”

Xavier gave him a glance. “Abby barely qualifies as a close friend of hers. Just an acquaintance at best.”

John visibly relaxed at the answer.

As the group continued chatting, a few more people entered the auction hall.

Wendy scanned the room, then let out a muttered curse. “Ugh, I really should’ve checked my horoscope before leaving today. Why do I keep running into the worst people?”

Sharon followed her gaze and spotted Carter, Kelly, Nate, and Julliard.

She was genuinely surprised. Although Julliard was close with Carter and Nate, he rarely showed up anywhere that involved Kelly His presence here today was unexpected.

Sensing something, Julliard looked up. His gaze landed on hers with unerring accuracy.

He paused for a beat, then gave her a small, polite nod and a warm smile.

Walking beside him, Nate noticed his expression and raised an eyebrow. “Julliard, who are you making eyes at? That smile was way too gentle.”

Then he followed Julliard’s line of sight, and his face changed instantly.

“What the hell?! What’s Sharon doing here?!”

His outburst drew Carter’s attention.

“Sharon?” Carter echoed, halting in his tracks.

Nate pointed toward her. “There, right over there! Damn it, is she here to mess with me again?”

In the past, every time he saw Sharon, he anticipated crossing her. If it had been a while since he last teased her, he’d even go out of his way to appear in her path.

Now? The moment he laid eyes on her, it felt like a dark cloud had settled over him. Bad luck seemed to follow her around. He wanted nothing more than to put as much distance between them as possible.

She scared him now, truly. Even Kelly had warned him to stay far away from Sharon.

Carter followed his gaze and spotted Sharon, standing with her group. His eyes darkened subtly.

Kelly also noticed Sharon’s presence.

Feigning nonchalance, she remarked, “Ever since Sharon got acquainted with Uriah, she really seems to have changed. She’s so

much more confident now.”
