Soon after, the results of the match between Sharon and Kelly were announced.

Sharon scored a perfect ten points.

Even though the host and judges praised Kelly for losing honorably, she couldn’t shake the sting of humiliation. She had lost to Sharon again.

At least she had prepared herself before stepping on stage, preserving a shred of dignity. Kelly forced herself to smile gracefully and said to Sharon, “Sharon, congratulations on winning the first round.”

Sharon returned the courtesy with a polite smile. “Thank you for your kind words, Kelly. I look forward to our next encounter. I hope your health recovers quickly and your hand heals soon, so that in the next match, you can try to win it back.”

Sharon had scored ninety-nine points. To surpass her would have required perfection. Even John, dazzling as he was, had only managed ninety-five at his peak. Kelly hadn’t even matched that. Winning against Sharon wasn’t nearly so simple.

After exchanging polite, almost perfunctory smiles, the two descended from the stage.

Other contestants took their turns, but by the end of the day, no one came close to surpassing Sharon. Kelly’s score was the second highest after Sharon. Yet, because of the scoring system, losing to Sharon still meant zero points.

It was only the first day of the preliminary round. Other contestants still had opportunities to chase points in subsequent rounds. Even if they couldn’t catch up in the first round, the second round remained.

When all the matches concluded, the host announced the results of the online popularity vote.

“Judges, take a guess: who is today’s most popular contestant?”

Some guessed Sharon, others Kelly, and a few suggested other contestants. Of the ten judges, five voted for Sharon, three for Kelly, and two selected other contestants-both different.

The host smiled, knowing the audience’s curiosity was piqued. “Today’s most popular contestant is… Kelly Walt! By the end of the competition, she amassed 1.5 million popularity votes! Sharon, on the other hand, received 1.4 million votes!”

The third-place contestant wasn’t announced. The gap was so wide that revealing it would embarrass the

next in line.

Kelly blinked in disbelief. What?! Sharon was only ten thousand votes behind her? Even with Thomas helping boost her votes, she had only narrowly beaten Sharon?

Immediately after the competition, Kelly called Thomas.

“Thomas, didn’t you help me with the votes? Why did I barely beat Sharon?”
