Chapter 722
Carter’s eyes darkened with anger as he strode toward Sharon.
Just then, Sharon’s foot slipped on the damp stones, and she nearly fell. Fortunately, Xavier reacted swiftly, catching her before she hit the ground.
“Thank you,” she murmured.
She had barely steadied herself when a powerful force wrenched the two of them apart.
Unprepared, Sharon staggered back two steps. Her heel struck a slick pebble, and she almost toppled again.
“Sharon!” Xavier instinctively reached out to steady her once more.
But before he could, Carter seized her wrist in a brutal grip, yanking her sharply into his
chest.
“Sharon. Xavier. What the hell are you two doing?!”
Xavier caught hold of her other wrist, his expression darkening. “Carter, let her go.”
Carter’s voice cut like ice. “You let go.”
At the sight of him, Sharon’s face paled. “Carter, what are you doing? Let me go!”
She tried to wrench her hand free, but his grip was like iron, unyielding and merciless. Her struggle only made his fingers tighten, pain lancing through her wrist.
The ever-smiling charm on Xavier’s face vanished, replaced by a dangerous chill.
“Carter, Sharon is divorced from you. Whoever she’s with, whatever she does-it’s none of your business.”
Carter gave a cold laugh. “It’s none of my business? And what, it’s yours instead?”
Without sparing him another glance, he tugged Sharon forward, intent on dragging her

But Xavier held fast to her other hand, barring his path. “Carter, let her go. She doesn’t want to leave with you.”
His grip tightened further. “She doesn’t want to come with me? You think she wants to go with you?”
Neither man would yield. The searing pressure on her wrists made Sharon break out in a cold sweat.
“Let go… it hurts!”
The plea jolted Xavier back to himself. Seeing the pallor of her face, he immediately released
her hand.
But Carter did not. His grasp remained firm, tightening once more as if she might vanish
the moment he let go. 1
“You’re hurting her,” Xavier said coldly. “What do you want, Carter? To crush her wrist
until it breaks?”
Carter finally lowered his gaze to her, only then noticing her ashen face. His grip eased slightly. The pain subsided, yet he still refused to release her entirely. It was as though the thought of loosening his hold terrified him-if he let go, she would disappear forever.
His voice dropped, hoarse and low. “Sharon… we need to talk.”
Before Sharon could respond, he had already pulled her away toward a quieter corner. Xavier, unwilling to risk injuring her further, did not stop him. He merely stood there, silent, watching their retreating figures.
Once they reached a secluded spot, Carter finally loosened his grip.

A sharp slap landed hard across his face, snapping his head to the side.
Yet not a flicker of pain crossed his expression.
“Feel better now?” he asked.
Sharon’s voice was colder than ice. “No.”
“Then hit me again.”
Without hesitation, she slapped him a second time.
His expression remained unchanged, as if her fury couldn’t reach him.
His gaze
drifted to her reddened palm. “If it’s not enough, keep going.”

A bitter laugh escaped her. “Your skin is thick enough not to feel it. I’m just worried I’ll hurt
my hand before I hurt you.”
She rubbed at her sore wrist, her voice sharp with venom.
“Carter, tell me, if you don’t break my wrist for Kelly’s sake, will you feel like you’ve
somehow failed her?”
