Chapter 753

Thomas couldn’t help but study Sharon. “I thought you loved the violin more than anything. Don’t you care about this at all?”

Sharon’s voice was calm, her demeanor unhurried.

“There are many ways to love something. Competing is just one of them. This time, the

fault was mine-I let Abigail down. If the organizers decide disqualification is warranted, I

will accept it. For me, this competition is a path to growth, but it is not the only path. It’s

not something I need to cling to at any cost.

The contest was important, yes-but not so important that she would compromise her

principles for it. Compared to a human life, it paled into insignificance.

Thomas was silent for a long moment. “You only missed the competition because you saved

  1. I will clear your name.”

But Sharon shook her head. “It’s no use. Right now, anything I say will be twisted by those who want to attack me. You’re my assistant. If you speak out, they’ll just claim we

concocted the story together. It’s not worth the effort.”

Thomas studied her. “So you plan on offering no explanation at all?”

“I will,” Sharon replied. “But only when the time is right… when people are so convinced of my guilt that they’ll believe nothing I say. That is when the truth will have the greatest impact.”

Understanding dawned on Thomas’s face. A faint, appreciative smile touched his lips.

“Not a bad strategy.”

She had been at fault for missing the competition. If Abigail had simply wanted to ride her coattails for a bit of publicity, Sharon might have let it go. But slander was a different matter. However much attention Abigail had wrung from her name, Sharon would make sure she paid it all back.

Lowering her gaze, Sharon said softly, “For now, just focus on recovering. Let me know if you need anything.”

Thomas countered, “You still haven’t answered my question from earlier.”

Her mind returned to what he had asked before being wheeled into surgery.

“Weren’t you afraid?”

Sharon answered honestly. “To say I wasn’t afraid would be a lie. But in that moment, I

didn’t think I just acted. Truthfully, if I had to choose again, I can’t be certain I would be brave enough to do the same thing.”

Thomas’s lips lifted in a small smile. “Regardless, I owe you my thanks for saving me.”

Sharon shook her head. “You don’t need to thank me. Without your composure-and without you shielding me at the last second-I would be the one in this hospital bed. I might have missed the finals, my concert… everything. So we are even.”

Thomas absorbed her words and gave a slight nod. “Understood.”

“May I borrow your house key?” Sharon asked. “I’ll go and get some things organized for

you.”

Thomas tossed her the key. “Thank you.”

Not long after Sharon left, a plain-looking young man entered the ward. 1

“Sir,” he greeted with a respectful bow, “the medical team has arrived. Your care will be

handled exclusively by our people from now on.”

“Have you identified who was behind the accident?” Thomas asked.

“Damien Malcolm,” the man replied.

Thomas’s expression remained cool and detached. “There’s something I need you to do

first.”

“Your orders?”

His gaze drifted lazily to the news broadcast on the television. “Since Damien is so eager to die, we should grant his wish. Make his ‘deepest secret’ a very public reality.”

His lips curved into a dangerous smile. “Make sure the entire process is broadcast live, for the whole world to see. Let everyone witness just how much he truly craves men.”
