Chapter 777
For some reason, Maestro Warner’s face burned as though he had been slapped.
No sooner had the woman left than Niel arrived with troubling news.
“Teacher, the uproar surrounding Sharon has taken a new turn. Someone has dredged up the circumstances of Kelly’s
apprenticeship. Now, the internet is flooded with commentary claiming you were blind to true talent-that you cast aside a genius
only to take on a mediocre pupil in her place. They are mocking your judgment, saying your legacy will be ruined…”
As he spoke, Niel carefully studied Warner’s expression.
“Teacher, your reputation has taken a serious hit. Many are waiting to see you embarrassed-to watch Sharon crush your last
student. If Kelly doesn’t win first place in this competition, it could truly damage your standing in the music world.”
Warner’s brows knitted tightly.
It was true. Recently, musicians from both home and abroad had been visiting him. All of them had heard about the emergence of
a violin prodigy in Zachemaine. They assumed Sharon must be his final student, and came flocking to him-hoping for an
introduction, eager to collaborate, to invite her to lecture, or even to hold a concert.
For a time, Sharon’s name was on everyone’s lips.
But once Warner publicly clarified that she was not his student, their delight was palpable, as if they had won the lottery.
“Warner, since you’ve already chosen your final pupil, I assume you won’t be accepting Sharon? In that case, I certainly won’t
hold myself back.”
“Ah, Maestro Warner, you’ve done me a great favor! Thank goodness you didn’t take her in. Otherwise, how would the rest of us have had this opportunity?”
“What? Your student is Kelly? Warner, how could you possibly mistake common glass for a diamond?”
Even his longtime friend, who had come under the pretense of inquiring about his new protégé, turned out to be angling for Sharon all along-only to end the call by sneering at his poor judgment.
Such relentless insults were utterly intolerable to a man of Warner’s immense pride.
His expression darkened. “If Kelly wants to surpass Sharon, she must defeat her twice. In the individual round-robin, I can’t
intervene that will depend on her alone. But in the team competition…”
His voice trailed off as an idea struck him. He turned to Niel. “Call Harry. Tell him to come at once. For the team event, Sharon’s
only possible partner is John. We must ensure Kelly wins.”.
Niel’s eyes widened in shock.
Harry Wells existed in a category of his own. Though from the same generation as Shayla, he stood apart from all the others.

Taken in by Warner at the mere age of five for his extraordinary, once-in-a-generation gift, he had never disappointed. Now, not yet thirty-five, he was a violinist whose fame rivaled Warner’s own.
But he was also the most arrogant of Warner’s students, a man who respected no one but his master.
If he were to be paired with Kelly, Sharon and John would stand no chance of victory. 15
Soon, the official day of the team competition arrived.
Sharon and John arrived early, settling in to review their scores one final time. Just as they were checking through the music sheets, a stir rippled through the entrance, drawing every eye in the hall.
