Chapter 840
Sharon suspected it had something to do with Johanna. But she didn’t press further.
After Sharon and Thomas left, Victoria turned to Johanna.
“Well? Did he believe you?”
Johanna replied, “Hard to say. He seemed half-convinced, half-doubtful. But at least he wasn’t as cold as before.”
Victoria arched a brow. “That’s only natural. If he believed everything you said without question, he’d either be too gullible or too fake. And if he were really that foolish, you wouldn’t be interested in him in the first place.”
Johanna nodded in agreement. “Still, I did manage to learn quite a bit from him. Useful things.’
Victoria’s mind was sharper than hers. Johanna relayed everything Thomas had told her, letting Victoria dissect each word, weighing whether it was truth or deception.
She wasn’t naïve enough to accept Thomas’s words at face value. What if he’d been deliberately testing her?
After listening, Victoria smiled knowingly.
“Finding out whether he was telling the truth is simple. Just ask Kelly, and you’ll have your answer.”
Johanna blinked, startled. “You mean… Thomas and Kelly know each other? If that’s the case, then his reason for staying by Sharon’s side might be…”
Victoria shook her head. “Not certain yet. But since Kelly’s at rock bottom now, we can afford to probe a little.”
Johanna let out a low laugh. “Victoria, you’re brilliant. You even thought of that.”
Then, as if recalling something, Johanna curved her lips into a sly smile.
“Good thing I wore Sharon’s original earring instead of the new replica. That old earring has a certain worn look. If I’d worn the freshly made one, Thomas might have noticed the flaw.”
After the earrings were remade, Victoria had insisted she wear Sharon’s real one, just in case. The new duplicate was quietly placed in Sharon’s room.
Sharon might have already forgotten the earring’s existence, but Victoria was nothing if not meticulous. She
never left loose ends.
