Chapter 9
I looked at Isabella coldly: “Do you know that spreading rumors is illegal?”
Isabella took a step back.
“Then how could you just bring Leo to the restaurant like that? Don’t you know his father and I were going crazy looking for him?”
I shrugged: “I really didn’t know.”
“Besides, he was the one who followed me. Please just take him away.”
But Leo clung to my leg like a stubborn plaster, refusing to let go.
Faint crying: “No, mommy, please don’t abandon me, okay?”
“I know I was wrong. I’ll never hurt you again.”
Alexander, who arrived a step late, stood behind us, staring at me intently.
A flash of unexpected joy crossed his eyes.
“Lydia.”
Just one word was enough for everyone to know my identity.
The person Alexander had hidden away for seven years, never willing to bring out in public.
I dodged his touch: “Get lost.”
Ethan suddenly rushed out and punched Alexander hard: “Are you trying to hurt her again?”
Isabella glared at me: “Just a woman who couldn’t stand the test.”
“Now you’re hooking up with Ethan Carter, is that it?”
Ethan spat at her: “You should be grateful I don’t hit women.”
Then he grabbed Alexander by the collar, getting more and more angry.
“Where was this a test? If you wanted to verify she wasn’t after wealth and power, fine, but why did you make her suffer alone?”
“Alexander, when you were sitting by the heater drinking hot tea in winter, did you ever think about how torturous it was for Lydia working as a nanny for grieving families?”
… – Frat Too!
Chapter 9
“What gave you the right to test her? What right?”
Alexander, who was usually untouchable, didn’t fight back, letting Ethan hit him.
The others finally realized something was wrong and immediately pulled them apart.
The oldest among them, Chen L, scolded that you talk things out properly?”
“Ethan, what were you just saying? Testing what?”
“We all grew up together–what can’t be resolve:17”
Alexander wiped the blood from his mouth and said nothing.
Ethan took a gulp of alcohol and laughed coldly: “Of course he doesn’t dare say. Do you know who he tested for seven years, letting everyone mock for seven years?”
“That’s my sister. He actually had the heart to let my sister work with death for six years–he clearly wanted to destroy
her.”
“Alexander, you even let others call the money she earned dirty.”
The others‘ expressions changed.
Alexander slowly got up and looked toward where I was standing.
I knew his non–resistance was meant for me to see, but I didn’t care anymore.
I didn’t want affection and love that came at the cost of my life.
I turned and left, carrying the little girl.
