Take Back All She Lost novel Chapter 119

With his other hand, he immediately shielded Josephine, his vigilant gaze carefully searching the surroundings for anything unusual.

The staff member in the elevator was startled by Josephine’s scream.

He thought someone behind him was holding a gunwhat else could frighten a woman like that?

Zachery scanned the area back and forth several times but found nothing out of the ordinary.

The only thing unusual was Josephine herself, as skittish as a startled bird.

He turned his head and spoke softly to Josephine behind him: Don’t be afraid. Did you maybe see something wrong?

Josephine’s face was deathly pale. She didn’t dare look up, and her eyes were still filled with obvious panic.

She swallowed, her voice trembling: I must haveseen it wrong.

Then, I’ll head back first.

Josephine didn’t dare take the elevator again. She hurriedly took the stairs and rushed home.

She called Patricia, first asking if Shane was home.

Only after Patricia said he wasn’t did she ask if Patricia could come keep her company.

In just twenty minutes, Patricia arrived, and Josephine finally relaxed.

Zachery could see Josephine’s fear, but he had no idea what she was afraid of.

He paced back and forth outside Josephine’s door.

He heard another woman’s voice inside, besides Josephine’s.

He couldn’t make out what they were talking about, but the atmosphere was relaxed, and laughter would occasionally drift out.

Zachery felt a bit more at ease.

But what could possibly frighten Josephine, who had once faced down killers with her bare hands without a trace of fear?

Zachery couldn’t sleep until he figured it out.

Josephine meant a great deal to him.

If he had to compare, she meant even more to him than he did to himself.

At eleven o’clock, there was some movement at Josephine’s door.

Zachery moved a little farther away.

He saw it was Josephine’s friend, tiptoeing out from inside.

Patricia glanced down both sides of the corridor, then went back inside and came out with a

box.

She began pulling out the roses that the property management had just carefully arranged, one by one, and placing them in the box.

Then she dragged the box to the elevator lobby and started removing the roses from the elevator area and inside the elevator as well.

Zachery’s tightly furrowed brows suddenly relaxed, as if a lock had been forcefully opened.

He recalled that when he escorted Josephine downstairs, the elevator doors opened and a cart full of red roses appeared out of nowhere, which had startled Josephine so badly

So, what Josephine was afraid of was actually the roses?

How could that be?

Wasn’t the place she used to live called Rose Manor?

He had thought she liked roses

Zachery withdrew his gaze from Patricia and took the stairs back up to the top floor.

As Patricia was removing the roses from the elevator, footsteps sounded in the corridor, and someone was giving orders:

Get more people over here. There can’t be a single rose in the entire residential area, not

even a petal. Start with the fourth floor of Building 3

The property manager walked into the elevator.

He caught Patricia redhanded as she was removing the roses.

Patricia rarely did anything she felt guilty about, so her nerves were especially fragile.

The moment their eyes met, she couldn’t stand the pressure and confessed:

I’m not stealing the roses.

I was planning to take them down, put them in the box, and return them to you just as they were.
