Chapter213
Josephine turned back and saw Zachery’s cars were red, a faint blush coloring his cheeks.
He looked a little cute, so she reached out…
And pinched Zachery’s car.
She just pinched it lightly, not using much force.
Zachery’s pupils suddenly widened, and Josephine felt a guilty pang, as if she’d been caught doing something bad.
She quickly said, “I’ll get Natalia to take a bath and go to bed first. I’ll come back in a bit.”
With that, she pulled her hand from Zachery’s, laid him flat, adjusted the air conditioning, and only then led Natalia out.
As Zachery heard the door close, his dazed eyes suddenly cleared.
He hadn’t actually drunk much tonight.
The smell of alcohol was from flicking it onto his clothes with his fingers.
Josephine had done something vengeful today.
At dinner tonight, he had consulted a psychologist, who said that such emotions only relieve short–term pain.
If the result of revenge is unsatisfactory, the emotional drain will only intensify the pain.
So he wanted to use the pretense of drunkenness to counsel Josephine.
With a drunk person, Josephine would probably be more willing to open up…
Natalia’s children’s room had its own private bathroom.
Josephine had Natalia sit on a little flower–shaped stool.
She sat on a large stool herself, using the showerhead to bathe Natalia.
Natalia’s skin was snow–white, with a faint pink glow, smooth and delicate.

Her body was clean, without a birthmark or even a single mole.

Josephine remembered how Claire had performed an emergency C–section for her, slapping her face to force her to regain a bit of consciousness.
“Can you hear me? You’re a mother now, you have to pull through… Your daughter is the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen, just as beautiful as you… Her body is clean, no birthmarks, no moles…”
Then Claire suddenly said, “It’s not looking good,” and Josephine slipped back into unconsciousness, never hearing Claire’s voice again.
After coming out of the ICU, she held Belinda for the first time.
She saw a round birthmark on Belinda’s shoulder.
After doing a paternity test with Belinda, she consulted a doctor.
The doctor said that it’s common for birthmarks to form after birth, even if there were none at
birth…
“Mom, how is Belinda’s foot?”
Natalia obediently offered her arm to Josephine, letting her rub it.
”
Josephine’s tone carried a hint of helplessness: “Her foot won’t get better anytime soon.
Natalia asked, “Does that mean Belinda won’t be able to go to school for a long time?”
“Yes, the cast has to stay on for a month, and then she’ll need two more months of rehabilitation.”
“That long? The kindergarten teacher said they want to do a home visit for Belinda… Belinda’s grandma won’t be mean to the teacher, will she?”
“No, she treats people differently depending on who they are.”
Josephine lathered foam onto Natalia’s head, and, worried Natalia might not understand, gently explained
“Treating people differently means giving different treatment to dillèrent people. For example, serving ginseng and bird’s nest to the teacher, but giving burnt stir–fry to classmates.”
Natalia listened and thought for a moment, then suddenly grabbed Josephine’s hand, her bright eyes shimmering with tears.
“Mom, your life must have been really hard before, right?”

“Ive met Belinda’s grandma. She’s unreasonable and speaks harshly… Belinda’s dad is always cold to people… Belinda herself seems to not understand human feelings. Mom, you must have suffered a lot in that family, right?”
Whenever she thought about her mom having lived with them, Natalia felt a pang in her heart and sadness washed over her.
