Take Back All She Lost novel Chapter 212

Chapter212

A soft little hand grabbed one of her fingers and led her toward the sofa.

The man’s shirt had several buttons undone at the collar, and his sleeves were slightly rolled up.

He reeked of alcohol, but his face didn’t show it. His eyes were still dark, though his gaze was a bit unfocused.

Josephine squatted down, wanting to test how sober he was.

She held up two fingers and asked, Dr. Maynard, how many is this?

Zachery leaned back against the sofa, looking rather casual.

His face was pale, but his ears were red.

There was a faint, inscrutable smile at the corner of his mouth: How could I not know how many that is? Childish.

Josephine moved two fingers, her patience evident: Mm, you know? Then tell me, how many is this?

Zachery’s gaze was unfocused and distant. What, are there two Josephines?

He reached out to grab Josephine’s fingers.

The first time, he caught nothing but air.

The second time, he missed again.

Why do you keep dodging?

Josephine glanced at her perfectly still fingers, then turned to Natalia and said, I’m sure he’s drunk. He won’t remem- ber a thing tomorrow.

With that, Josephine stood up.

Zachery grabbed the hem of her clothes: I haven’t said how many it is yet.

Your answer doesn’t matter anymore.

Josephine shook her head with a faint smile.

Natalia said, It’s the first time my dad’s ever gotten drunk. I’m going to turn on all the cameras in the house so he can see how silly he looks when he’s drunk tomorrow.

HeheNatalia, as if she’d found something fun, went off to do just that.

Zachery quickly glanced at Natalia’s cheerful figure as she left.

Chapter212

What a good daughter he had

Josephine looked at the man on the sofa; he had closed his eyes.

Josephine bent down, shaking Zachery as she said, Don’t fall asleep yet, Dr. Maynard. Wait until I get you back to your room.

Zachery didn’t open his drunken eyes; it was unclear whether he heard her or not.

Josephine draped his arm over her neck and gave a sudden heave, but Zachery didn’t help at all.

It felt like a stone was hanging from Josephine’s shoulder, dragging her down so that she ended up sitting squarely on Zachery’s lap.

Due to the momentum, her shoulder knocked into Zachery’s nose as she leaned back, making him grunt in pain.

Startled, Josephine turned her head, only to accidentally brush her chin against his nose as he raised it, rubbing it.

Her soft, pale pink lips unexpectedly grazed Josephine’s smooth chin.

Josephine’s breath caught, and she froze for a moment.

Beneath Zachery’s glasses, his eyes were misty, and his body had gone noticeably stiff.

Before either of them could react, Natalia’s footsteps came pattering over.

Josephine snapped back to herself and quickly stood up.

Glancing back at Zachery, who was still tipsy, she figured he wouldn’t remember any of this in the morning.

It was just an accident, nothing major. She decided to pretend nothing had happened, to avoid making things awk- ward.

She lowered her head and calmly asked Zachery, Can you stand up on your own?

Zachery pinched his sore nose and, bracing himself on the sofa, managed to muster some strength.

Josephine quickly draped his arm over her shoulder.

This time, it went quite smoothly.

But when they reached the bedroom door, Zachery tripped over the upturned edge of the carpet and stumbled toward the floor.

Since they were standing, there was room to maneuver.

Josephine reacted quickly, pulling Zachery back and wrapping both arms around his waist.

If she hadn’t practiced martial arts and had a strong body, she and Zachery would have both ended up on the floor.

Just like in a TV drama, they would have gazed at each other in an ambiguous pose, with the night outside lingering or rain pouring down.
