Helena got to attend the dinner, dazzling in jewels, yet she might have to scrounge for a dry cardboard to sleep on tonight.

“Josephine, so much for your precious pride. Look at what you’ve become–a pathetic laughingstock.”

She couldn’t help but mock herself, her lifeless eyes devoid of any hope.

Just then, Martin called out from behind her, “Ms. Copeland! Ms. Copeland!”

She turned around.

Panting, Martin caught up with her and handed her a bank card with both hands.

It was a black card with no bank logo, embossed with a single letter “Z“.

Puzzled, she looked at him, not accepting the card.

He explained, “The gentleman who rear–ended us yesterday insisted that you accepted it. He even knew your surname.”

“He didn’t say who he was?” Josephine asked.

“No.”

“What did he look like?”

“Pretty frightening… I didn’t dare to look at him at all.”

Josephine thought of the mysterious email sender.

He was like a shadow, knowing what had happened to her well. As much as he wanted to help her, he wouldn’t overstep.

After hesitating for a while, she took the card.

Right now, she needed money more than anything.

Of course, she knew there was no such thing as free favors. The man definitely was up to something by helping her out.

But for now, survival was the most important thing for her.

With the card, she checked into a hotel and gave the female manager some money to buy her daily necessities, cosmetics, clothes, bags, and so on.

After midnight, she finally collapsed onto the bed.

But as soon as she closed her eyes, she’d uncontrollably picture Helena’s dazzling appearance at the VIP dinner.

She didn’t sleep a wink that night.

At the first blush of dawn, she headed to the Sylphoire luxury gala.

Rich socialites were Sylphoire’s main clientele. To avoid stealing their thunder, attendants needed to wear plain uniforms and veils, which happened to give her the perfect opportunity.

Josephine followed an attendant to the parking lot.

Then she said, “I need your identity to enter the gala. In exchange, you’ll receive 30 thousand dollars. Well?”

The attendant widened her eyes in great disbelief.

Twenty minutes later, Josephine successfully entered the venue.

As night fell, Helena showed up, accompanied by Wilfred.

Josephine remembered vividly how he’d always despised shallow social gatherings like this. He’d never let her attend any of this.

But now? It seemed he truly doted on Helena so much.

“Fred, look at them. They’re all so elegant and beautiful. I’m glad you’re here, or I would have been so frightened,” Helena said.

Wilfred straightened her stray bangs and smiled, “This is your first time attending this kind of event. Of course, I’ll be here to show you support.”

She nuzzled against his shoulder intimately. “Fred, I’m so lucky to have you.”
