His gaze darkened slightly as he looked at her. He parted his lips, but no words came out.

What had happened last night was an accident, and her kiss totally caught him off guard. He kept restraining himself even now.

Josephine didn’t know what he was thinking. All she saw were his reddening ears…

After breakfast, she stood up to clear the dishes.

Zachery happened to have the same idea.

They reached for the same plate simultaneously.

As she gripped its rim, his hand closed over hers.

It was June, but her delicate hand felt so cold. Probably because she wasn’t exerting force, he could hardly feel any bones.

She clearly sensed the heat of his skin. His palm and fingers were rough with calluses, prickling her.

Scalpels wouldn’t leave calluses this thick.

Such an idea flashed across her mind.

Then she looked up and met his eyes.

The silence went on for a few seconds, and then both of them let go, acting all calm.

He reacted quickly and caught the plate before it fell to the floor. “I’ll handle the dishes.”

She smiled a bit awkwardly, “Thanks.”

Since they had takeout, all he had to do was toss everything into the trash bag and take it downstairs later.

She insisted on paying him back for last night’s drinks and the breakfast, and he accepted it.

Before heading out, he asked, “Are you gonna stay here for long?”

“No. I’ll start looking for an apartment today,” she replied.

He nodded. “Opal Heights isn’t a bad choice.”

In fact, Opal Heights was the most upscale neighborhood in Vexford. It was a high–end smart community developed by Thalassa Group with property fees of almost twenty dollars per

She knew all the details because it came equipped with Novo Tech’s smart home system upon delivery.

Forcing a smile, she said, “Thanks. I’ll consider it.”

“If it’s about money, feel free to let me know.”

“Alright. Thank you.” She nodded perfunctorily.

Since they weren’t that close, she didn’t tell him about Mr. Z or the bank card.

With the trash bag in hand, Zachery turned around to leave. But he soon stopped.

“Anything else, Dr. Maynard?”

His gaze fell upon her face for a few seconds. Then he said, “Nothing.”

Then he continued to walk, his pace steady and slow. Once out of the door, he stopped again and turned to look at her.

She wasn’t a narcissist, and of course, she wouldn’t think he was reluctant to leave her.

What Natalia had said echoed in her mind–since even GPS was a challenge for him, chances were, he couldn’t find his way to the hospital.

Sure enough, no one was perfect.

“Let me see you off,” she offered.

Zachery immediately smiled, as if he had been waiting for her to say this, “Thank you.

By saying “see you off“, she meant hailing a taxi for him.

Then she emphasized several times to the driver, “Take him to Jovitas General Hospital. You know that, right? Jovitas General Hospital, the hospital on Splendor Avenue”
