Fred.”
As she walked toward the balcony, she accidentally stepped on a toy Belinda had left lying around. Her foot slipped, and she pitched forward.
Wilfred swiftly caught Helena around the waist, a flash of concern in his eyes.
“Walk a little slower.”
Helena nodded shyly.
Wilfred let Helena steady herself, but with a little cry, she nearly fell again.
Wilfred’s hand once again landed on Helena’s waist.
The sensation was as soft and smooth as flowing water, making it hard for him to keep his
composure.
“Fred, I think I twisted my ankle.”
Wilfred looked down and saw Helena’s ankle was red. He bent down, picked her up, and placed her on Helena’s bed.
Helena clung to Wilfred’s neck, refusing to let go.
“Fred, I’m afraid I’ll have nightmares. I don’t dare to sleep.”
Wilfred was forced to stay bent over her.
Wherever he looked, he saw Helena’s alluring collarbones and the V–shaped neckline of her nightdress.
She wasn’t wearing a bra, and her feminine curves were faintly visible beneath the nightgown, presenting an irresistible temptation.
Suddenly, he recalled the scene in the dressing room at the Sylphoire banquet, when he had helped Helena get dressed.
At the time, he had been filled with anger, regret, and self–reproach, and hadn’t realized that

Lena was no longer the little girl who used to follow him around calling him brother.
And it seemed he could no longer treat Lena as a child, either.
Wilfred’s gaze grew deeper and deeper as he slowly lowered his head…
Helena closed her eyes, full of anticipation.
But the kiss she imagined never came.
She heard Wilfred’s voice, very low: “Don’t dress like this at home from now on.”
Wilfred let go of Helena and strode out.
Helena sat up, neither embarrassed nor annoyed.
She could feel that Wilfred was attracted to her.
That was a good sign. As long as he saw her as a woman, sooner or later he would be completely hers…
Meanwhile, at the card club.
Josephine hadn’t counted how much she had won.
She only knew she was constantly collecting payments.
When one payment app hit its limit, she switched to another. When that one reached its limit, she switched to a bank card.
A waiter brought over four boxes of hanging–green lychees, each box packed with ice to keep the fruit as fresh as possible.
Josephine wasn’t particularly fond of lychees, so she didn’t touch them.
Zachery mistakenly thought her hands were full, so he washed his hands, peeled a lychee, and brought it to Josephine’s lips.
Seeing this, the other three players stopped playing their cards.
They leaned back in their chairs, rocking and clearly waiting to see a joke.
Josephine thought to herself that Zachery had helped her win at cards and had served her tea and water for hours. He deserved some credit for his efforts.

If she let Zachery be laughed at by these kids, it would be a bit inhuman.
Zachery was lowering his eyes, reflecting on whether his actions had made Josephine uncomfortable.
Feeling regretful, he started to withdraw the lychee.
But to his surprise, Josephine bit down in one swift motion…
Because she was in a hurry, Josephine wasn’t very careful.
Her red lips parted and closed, biting into the sweet, refreshing lychee–and at the same time, onto Zachery’s clean, cool fingers.
Zachery wasn’t sure if it was pain, but his breathing carried a profound heaviness.
Josephine’s mind went blank for a second. She quickly unclenched her teeth, leaned her head back, and pretended to nonchalantly chew on a lychee.
She even choked and coughed twice as she swallowed.
Zachery lowered his eyes to look at his two fingers. To have Josephine’s lipstick stain them was, for those fingers, a blessing across three lifetimes.
