“We received a report that you stole something,” the security guard said sternly. “Ma’am, we need to check your bag.”
A cold sweat broke out on my back. A crowd had gathered around us, watching curiously. I quickly lowered my head, afraid someone might recognize me.
“I’m sorry, actually, it’s…” I said quietly, trying to explain.
But my mother’s sharp voice cut me off. “Are you seriously calling us thieves?! Open your damn eyes! I’m a fucking VIP in this mall! I can have you fired if you keep saying bullshits like that understand?!”
I couldn’t believe this. What was she saying? She DID steal something! How could she act so self–righteous?
The guard was unmoved by her threat. “Ma’am, please open your bag and cooperate with the inspection.”
“In your dream!” My mother swung her bag and hit him hard. “Get the hell out of my way, you damn bastard!”
I gasped. So did the people around us. The guard’s face turned cold. “Ma’am, if you resist, we will have to use force.”
“Screw your! Ahhh-!”
Two guards grabbed her shoulders while another took her purse. She screamed like a crazy person, struggling wildly. “Help! HELP! These men are trying to rape me! Somebody help!”
“Ma’am, we are just inspecting your bag,” the guard said angrily. “Could you please cooperate?”
But she wouldn’t listen. “You damn rapists! GO TO HELL!”
I saw people in the crowd whispering and pointing at me. Someone might have already recognized me. I had to step in and stop this nonsense.
“Please,” I begged the guard quietly. “Can we handle this somewhere private?”
Yet all I got was a stern reply: “I’m sorry miss. But this woman is clearly unstable. We’re taking her to the police station right now.”
My mother spat at them. “Screw your fucking police station! How dare you! Do you know who my daughter is? She is-”
“Mom!” I snapped angrily, cutting her off. I turned back to the guard, almost pleading. “Please, I’m begging you, don’t turn this into a scene. I–I have my reasons, I can explain later… And I’ll pay for any damages…”
“Miss, if you interfere again, I’ll have you arrested too!” the guard ordered. “Take them both!”

Just like that, my arms were pinned. I could no longer cover my face, and I saw someone in the crowd raising
a camera-
“Stop!”
A commanding female voice cut through the chaos.
Instantly, all the noise died down. The guards and crowd of people turned, their expressions shifting to shock and respect as they quickly bowed toward the source of the voice.
1 spun around.
Behind us stood a tall figure. At first glance, you might think it was a man, but no–she was the most muscular female warrior I had ever seen.
But it wasn’t her the crowd was honoring.
They were bowing to the lady standing behind the female warrior.
The lady wore a beige suit and a hat with a veil, so you couldn’t really see her face. She wore no flashy jewelry, yet she was the most elegant, perfectly poised, and noble–looking woman I had ever seen. Unlike Isla’s fake elegance, this woman seemed a born royalty.
She was surrounded by several bodyguards and three maids. Clearly, she was someone important.
The local Frostpine Pack members seemed to know her. The guard holding me stammered:
“L–Lady Quentina! God we are so sorry to disturb you…”
“Lady Quentina wants to know the cause of this disturbance,” the female warrior said sternly.
“There was a report that this mother and daughter stole something. We were just trying to get a look into her bag and see if the report is true…” the guard stuttered.
“This scene looks less like an inspection and more like a robbery. I don’t understand why this couldn’t be handled privately instead of causing a public scene,” the female warrior said coldly. “Disperse the crowd. Release this poor girl and her mother. We don’t want people thinking Frostpine Pack is full of savages.”
My mother and I were immediately released. The crowd quickly scattered. Then the female warrior turned back to her mistress, seemingly uninterested in any further conversation with me. And they were ready to leave.
“W–Wait!” I blurted out.
I didn’t know why I did it, but before I could even think it through, I was hurrying toward the lady.
My heart pounded in my chest.
A strong intuition urged me on…
I knew I had to speak to her… even just one word…

As I came close, the female warrior immediately held out a hand to stop me. “Keep your distance!”
I stopped abruptly in my tracks, breathing unevenly, “S–Sorry, I just wanted to… to thank this lady for helping
me back there…”
“It’s alright, Torvi. Let her through,” said the lady.
It was the first time I heard her voice.
