Aria’s POV

“You are kidding,” I gritted out.

Alpha Otto rolled his eyes. “I never joke about love and marriage, sweetheart. Now sit the fuck down–I wasn’t talking to you.”

“Talk to her like that one more time and you’re really gonna have a serious problem,” Grayson growled, his eyes darkening.

“Oh really? What are you gonna do, rip my head off? Invade my fucking territory like your daddy did? Go ahead. Nothing you do would

surprise me.”

“Otto!” Isla snapped.

I stared at that woman. Was this whole thing her plan? Was she deliberately trying to provoke a fight between Otto and Grayson?

I couldn’t tell. But right now, she looked genuinely annoyed at Otto’s outburst.

“Why, Isla? Why are you stopping me from saying it? Haven’t you suffered enough because of this guy?” Otto raised his voice and shot Grayson a look full of rage. “This bastard abandoned you and left you suffering for years. I’m not letting him get away with it.”

“Bullshit! Grayson didn’t abandon her–she was the one who filed for divorce,” I snapped.

Otto let out a cold laugh. “Then didn’t you ever wonder why Isla would go so far as to ask for a divorce? They used to be madly in love.”

“Enough, Otto. I don’t want to talk about the past,” Isla said sharply.

I raised my voice, too. “And why not? Isn’t it obvious? She couldn’t stand being around Grayson anymore. She didn’t want to stay with him through the worst part of his life. It’s all because she was selfish!”

Otto suddenly shot up, grabbed a glass, and smashed it on the floor.

“Bullshit! Įsla Harding is the most selfless woman I’ve ever known. If she had a choice, she would’ve never left the man she loved–and she sure as hell wouldn’t have handed him over to a shameless little bitch like you-”

“SHUT UP!”

Grayson slammed to his feet, his Alpha aura cracking through the air like a whip.

BANG!

A violent shatter exploded around us. The chandelier above and every single glass item on the table burst into pieces.

“That’s enough! Both of you!” Isla shouted, her voice breaking. Her eyes were red with tears. “It’s over. I don’t want to talk about the past anymore. Let him think I left him because I was selfish.”

I glared at her.

What the hell did she mean by that?

Was she hinting there was more to the story?

Whatever it was. I didn’t want her dragging it back up. I just wanted her far, far away from our lives.

Chapter 93

“I would never call you selfish. But you were the one who asked for the divorce. That part’s true,” Grayson growled.

Tears poured out from Isla’s eyes. “Yeah, I did. But when I brought up the divorce… I thought you’d at least ask me why. But you didn’t. You just signed the papers without a word and walked away. God, I wished you would’ve just asked me why…

“So you had a reason that you didn’t tell me? What the hell was it?!” Grayson snapped.

I grabbed his hand. “Just stop asking. Can’t you see what they’re trying to do? They want to provoke you, to control your emotions-”

“You know nothing! So just shut the fuck up!” Otto roared. “What they had was the most selfless, powerful love in the world! Nothing like your petty little romance. Grayson, you betrayed the one woman who loved you the most in this whole world. And now you’ll live with the darkest fate–eternal loneliness, abandonment, pain-”

“I SAID SHUT UP!!!”

Grayson’s roar tore through the air as he lunged forward. He shifted mid–air.

A massive black wolf landed in the center of the dining room, its enormous body filling the space. He bared his teeth and lunged at Otto.

“No–don’t!!” I screamed.

They couldn’t start this fight. If this turned into a full–blown war, everything fell apart. It would be all my worst fears coming true.

Otto shifted too, but his wolf was much smaller than Grayson’s. The two of them clashed, snarling and tearing through the room. They

smashed through walls and floors, destroying everything in their path.

“Somebody stop this fucking lunatic!” Otto howled. Blood soaked his fur, especially around his shoulders. “Fuck! I’m calling my soldiers–this is turning into a war!”

“No, please!” I shouted.

I tried to run between them to stop Grayson. But they were too fast, too wild. I nearly got crushed several times, by their claws, their jaws, or

the falling debris.

I tried to release my scent to calm him down, but my wolf… was too weak. Useless.

Why? Why the fuck was my wolf so weak?!

“No… oh god, no…” I choked, panic rising in my throat.

I could feel it. His rage spiraling out of control. Darkness was taking over him, drowning him. And I knew he needed me.

But I couldn’t reach him.

I’d never felt so helpless in my life.

“Damn it! Somebody do something!!!” Otto screamed in desperation, cornered and bleeding.

Then suddenly–Isla ran forward.

She stepped right between the two wolves, throwing her arms out.

“Stop it, Grayson! This isn’t you!” she cried.

The massive black wolf bared his teeth at her. But Isla didn’t flinch. She took another step closer, gently placing a hand on his fur.

Her voice went even softer. “This isn’t what you want, Grayson. Calm down. You’re better than this.”

She was insane. One snap of his jaw and she’d be dead. I was sure she was going to die

But she didn’t.

The giant wolf growled, then whimpered, pacing anxiously. And then, he turned, slammed through the wall, and disappeared into the night.

My knees gave out and I collapsed to the floor, trembling.

…He didn’t hurt her.

Grayson actually didn’t hurt her.

I’d always believed they were over. Maybe he had loved her once, but it was all in the past.

But now I wasn’t sure anymore.

In that moment, I couldn’t even be sure if he would’ve spared me.

But he’d listened to her. Let her calm him down.

I clutched my head, pain shooting through my body. Maybe what they had was deeper, more complicated than I’d ever realized.

“Fuck, fuck, FUCK!”

Otto shifted back, bloodied and raging. “You all saw that? That fucking psycho tried to kill me! Damn it, I should’ve brought my soldiers with

me!”

“To be fair, you were the one who provoked him,” I said coldly, my voice still shaking.

“I didn’t provoke him! I was just telling the truth! He’s a fucking lunatic!” Otto bellowed. “That’s it. I’m summoning my army right now. The

war is on!”

“NO!”

I forced myself to my feet and shouted, “He didn’t mean it. Just… give him a chance to talk this out. Everything will be fine-”

“Yeah, sure, he didn’t mean it. He’s just naturally unhinged,” Otto sneered. “Then tell me where the hell is he right now? Do you even know

that?”

My fists clenched. Truth was, I had no idea.

“I do,” Isla said suddenly.

She stood up, calmly fixing her hair and dress like nothing had happened. Regal again. Composed.

“I know where he went. He always has a place he runs to when he loses control. I’ll bring him back.” she said,
