The Alpha's Forbidden Vow novel Chapter 70

POV: Selene

Zane lay limp and heavy in my arms, his powerful scent fading, replaced by the chilling, metallic tang of his blood and the acrid smell of the poison.

The dagger was still embedded deep in his shoulder, the silver visibly sizzling against his flesh.

“Zane!” I screamed again, my voice raw with terror.

My mind was a whirlwind of panic. The powerful Alpha who had just shielded me with his life was now a fragile, unresponsive weight.

“Help!” My voice tore through the silent manor. “Someone! Help me!”

Guards burst into the room, their faces paling at the sight of their dying Alpha.

Panic erupted. The pack doctors were summoned, but their faces were grim. They recognized the silver, but the human chemical compound mixed with it was beyond their knowledge. They worked frantically, but the wound continued to spread, the poison neutralizing his werewolf healing.

“We can’t stop it,” one of the lead doctors admitted, his voice full of despair. “He won’t survive the night.”

Seraphina rushed in, letting out a wail of grief as she saw her son.

My heart was a block of ice. I stared at Zane’s still face. This couldn't be happening.

Not now. Not after everything.

My mind raced. Wolf doctors were useless. Human poisons.

Elias.

He was a human doctor. He understood human poisons. He was our only hope.

Without a second thought, I pulled out the burner phone Lyra had given me.

I dialed his number, my fingers trembling.

He answered immediately. “Selene? Is everything alright?”

“Elias!” I choked out. “You have to come back! It’s Zane! He’s dying! Silver and a human poison! The wolf doctors can’t help. You’re the only one!”

There was a moment of shocked silence.

This was the fierce, determined watch of a warrior.

I was not just fighting for the man who had saved my life.

I was fighting for the father of my son.

He had sacrificed himself for me.

My hatred, my anger, it was all a luxury I could no longer afford.

All that mattered now was repaying the debt.

His life for mine.

I would not let him die.

I would drag him back from the brink myself if I had to.
