The Beautiful Wife Of Mr Rowland novel Chapter 12

Emily sat quietly in the cab, staring out the window but not seeing anything.

Denovon's words kept replaying in her head:

“I, Denovon Rowland, need a wife.”

“So if you’re willing, let’s get married.”

“You won’t be at a disadvantage.”

It felt like a dream. No—a strange scene from a drama. But it was real. He said it. He actually asked her to marry him.

Her heart beat fast. Confused. Shocked. A little scared.

“Sleep over it... I’ll be waiting for your reply.”

Her fingers trembled slightly as she held her bag tighter.

The cab stopped. “We’re here, ma’am,” the driver said.

She paid and stepped out slowly. Her thoughts were still wrapped around Denovon’s face when she saw them—

Charles. Julie.

Standing in front of her apartment building.

Her steps froze.

Her chest tightened instantly.

Months. It had been months since she last saw Charles. Since that day at the hospital… the day she found out it had all been a lie.

Her stomach turned, but she stood still. Her face calm. She refused to cry.

When they saw her, Julie's eyes narrowed immediately.

Charles looked uncomfortable.

Julie folded her arms, loud and sarcastic. “Wow. The witch finally comes home.”

Emily didn’t answer.

Charles stepped forward, clearing his throat. “Emily… we came to talk.”

Emily gave them both a calm look, then said softly, “Why are you here?”

Julie smirked. “You don’t know? You slapped me. In public. Humiliated me like some street girl.”

Emily looked at her without emotion. “I didn’t call you. I didn’t look for you.”

Julie rolled her eyes. “So now you’re proud of that slap?”

Still, Emily’s voice didn’t rise. “I just want to be left alone.”

Julie wasn’t having it. “Alone? Oh, now you want peace? After trying to take my man?”

Emily’s brows furrowed. “Your man?”

“Yes! Charles! You tried to take him from me. You thought he would leave me for you?”

Emily’s heart squeezed for a second, but she remained still.

“Julie,” she said softly, “Why do you hate me so much? I really don’t remember doing anything to you.”

Julie’s face twisted in rage. “Because you tried to take him! That’s enough reason! You always acted perfect. Like you were better than me. But you’re nothing! Just a mistake in our lives!”

Charles glanced at Julie, then back at Emily. Her calmness unsettled him.

She nodded slowly, then said, “Well, now you have him. So don’t bother me again.”

Julie blinked.

Emily’s tone stayed steady. “I’m not fighting you. I’m not interested in drama. I’ve made peace with the past.”

She looked at both of them. “I want a quiet life. Please let me have it.”

And with that, she turned to walk past them.
