The Billionaire Ex-Wife and the Beggar He Became novel Chapter 115

Yves Prescott held Winona close in his arms. Even though he knew perfectly well that she was Julian's wife, when Julian appeared, Yves tightened his hold on her, just to make a point.

Cradling Winona, Yves glanced at Julian and began, "I'm just like Mr. Nicholson…"

But before he could finish, Winona, still nestled in his embrace, spoke up, her voice calm but sharp. "I don't see how our being here has anything to do with Mr. Nicholson. Maybe you should keep your girlfriend in check and remind her it's better to watch her mouth. Sometimes, when you throw dirt, you only end up making yourself stink."

Felicity gaped at her. "You—!"

For the first time, Felicity realized Winona was far less meek than she'd assumed—her words landed with surprising precision and composure.

Even Clayton, who'd just joined Felicity in mocking Winona, was momentarily stunned. He saw now that Winona hadn't misunderstood their jabs, nor had she been too timid to answer back. She simply didn't care enough to acknowledge them as equals.

If she didn't even see them as people worth engaging, what was the point of all their taunts? What did anything they said matter to her?

Clayton's eyes narrowed. He noticed that when Winona crouched down to sift the earth earlier, she hadn't been playing—she was actually inspecting the soil.

And then there was Julian's reaction to Winona.

This time, Winona hadn't clung to Julian at all, but it was clear Julian's attention was fixed on her, regardless.

Curiosity flickered in Clayton's mind. What on earth was the story between Winona, Julian, and Felicity? Was it some twisted love triangle? Had Winona really come between Felicity and Julian's marriage? If so, this woman was more ruthless than he'd imagined.

Yves Prescott, let's go. We've seen enough here." Winona remained comfortably in Yves's arms, not waiting for Julian's response or sparing a glance for Felicity's furious expression. Her tone was cool and even.

"Alright!" Yves answered eagerly, as if he'd do anything she asked.

They looked every bit the inseparable couple as they walked arm in arm to their car.

Behind them, Julian stood frozen, unable to snap out of his daze. Every time he saw Winona lately, she seemed changed—stronger, more composed than before.

And today, for the first time, Julian found himself thinking that Winona was far more beautiful than Felicity.
