The Billionaire Ex-Wife and the Beggar He Became novel Chapter 20

Winona felt a pang of guilt toward her grandmother.

The next day, Winona headed to the bank to exchange currency.

She was traveling on a business visa and had to be back within a week; with such a tight schedule, it was best to get her euros ready in advance.

She hadn't even stepped inside when she ran into Mackenzie.

Mackenzie was chatting and laughing with someone as they walked toward the bank entrance. His easygoing expression hardened into a glare the instant he saw Winona.

He turned to his companion and said, "Go on in. I have something to take care of."

The other person disappeared inside.

Mackenzie squared up to Winona, looming over her in a display of dominance. "Listen, woman. I didn't get a chance to warn you yesterday with so many people around, but it's not too late now. Stay away from Felly and her boyfriend. Don't go bothering them. Or else—"

"And what gives you the right to order me around?" Winona's tone was cool and unbothered.

"No right at all!" he sneered, not even pretending otherwise. "But I'll keep pushing you down, grinding you under my heel, until you're on your knees in front of Felly, begging for forgiveness—then you can just disappear. Get too close, and I'm worried your stench will rub off on her. What are you going to do about it?"

He made it perfectly clear—he was bullying her simply because he could.

"You brushed your teeth this morning, didn't you?" Winona said suddenly.

"What?"

"I mean, you must have. Otherwise your breath would be even worse. With breath as foul as yours—so bad it's like you've been eating garbage—how has Princess Felicity not suffocated yet?" Without waiting for a response, Winona strode into the bank lobby.

Was she afraid of Mackenzie? Of course she was. It was only natural to fear someone with so much more power.

But Winona knew that showing fear around him was useless. She might as well stand her ground.

If Mackenzie ever posed a real threat to her safety, she was determined to drag him down with her. She would claw his face until it bled, rake her nails deep into his skin to leave evidence and, if pushed to the brink, she would end it right there in front of everyone.

If she had to go down, she wasn't going alone.

Just before entering the lobby, Winona glanced back over her shoulder at Mackenzie. He stood there, momentarily stunned.
