Yves Prescott raised a hand to silence her, his attention still on the phone. "If I decide to invest in a project, no one can keep me out. Whatever she needs, I'll provide. If she wants to refuse me, she'd better have a damn good reason. I want to meet her in person, and that's final."

He hung up, his eyes sharp as they landed on Winona. "Are you still here? Get out."

"Mr. Prescott, I was the one who hit you with my car. I need to take responsibility," Winona said earnestly.

Without warning, Yves sprang from the hospital bed and closed the distance between them. His hand shot out, clamping around her throat, pinning her hard against the door.

His grip was calculated—tight enough to hurt, not enough to suffocate. She gasped for breath, her jaw aching from the pressure.

"You filthy, lowlife woman. Your stunt makes me sick."

Winona tried to wrench free, but his hold was unyielding. She could only stare at him, forced to listen as he spat out his contempt.

"At the Riverside Club, you made a scene chasing after Julian. That little girl with him—what did she call you? Gold-digger?"

Winona choked out, "You… you were there… that night?"

"If Julian was there, why wouldn't I be?" Yves sneered.

"Women like you—when Julian ignores you, you set your sights on me, is that it? You crash your car into mine just to get my attention, then show up here caked in makeup, thinking your little transformation will impress me?"

"Bitch! Whore! Julian and I may be enemies, but we agree on this—any woman he finds repulsive, I do too. Men know how to judge women, got it?"

Winona stopped struggling, letting his cruelty wash over her.
