Zane was so scared he wanted to cry.

After agonizing for a while, he picked up his phone and dialed a familiar number.

The call was answered almost instantly. On the other end, a warm, creaky voice came through: "Zane, my precious great-grandson! What's gotten into you, calling your old Nana at this hour?"

"Nana... sniff... I'm scared..."

"What happened, Zane? My sweet boy, don't cry, just tell Nana what's going on," the elderly woman said, her worry so intense it made her sweat.

Through broken sobs, Zane managed to stammer out the name of their neighborhood and the street outside. Helga repeated the names over and over, her mind working to memorize every detail.

Once she was sure she'd gotten it right, she soothed him, "Don't be afraid, sweetheart. Nana's coming to stay with you!"

"Okay!" With Nana's promise, Zane's fear faded away.

He curled up next to his mom, keeping watch over her. Before long, the brave little fellow drifted off to sleep.

Winona woke up after a brief rest.

When she opened her eyes, she saw Zane sleeping beside her. She gently picked him up and tucked him into bed so he could rest comfortably, then quietly checked the other rooms for Mia.

"Mia? Mia? Where are you?" Winona called, puzzled.

It wasn't until three in the morning that Mia finally returned.

The living room was pitch black.

Moving quietly, Mia flicked on the light. The moment she saw someone sitting on the sofa, she shrieked, "Oh my God, you scared me to death! Nona, what are you doing sitting here in the dark? Why aren't you sleeping?"

"Mia." Winona's voice was icy cold.

Mia shivered, suddenly nervous.

"Seven years ago, you promised me you'd never go back to those places again. Where did you go tonight? Tell me! If you don't, I'll tear that mouth of yours apart!"
