The Billionaire Ex-Wife and the Beggar He Became novel Chapter 70

Women like her—

She's nothing but a festering pile of rot.

"Miss Perkins, are you seriously suggesting that this project wasn't designed by me, but by you—a girl who didn't even finish high school?" Felicity's tone dripped with scorn as she shot the question at Winona.

The moment her words landed, a wave of laughter broke out across the room.

"Oh my god, a high school dropout? She might as well be illiterate!"

"See, that's what they mean by 'ignorance is bliss.' If she'd bothered to crack open a book or learned a little about the world, maybe she wouldn't have the guts to crash a charity gala like this and try to mooch off Mr. Nicholson and Miss Shepherd."

"She probably thinks this sort of design is child's play."

"Child's play? She probably thinks running a senior care project is as easy as sewing together one of those cheap knockoff dresses she's wearing!"

"What a disgrace!" At that moment, Hattie, standing right behind Winona, reached out and lightly tugged at the hem of Winona's dress, making Winona spin around in shock.

Hattie, much younger than the others, looked mischievous and utterly unrestrained.

"I was just curious if your bargain-bin dress would come apart if I pulled on it. You're not nearly bold enough, you know. If you really wanted to get everyone's attention, you should've worn something that'd fall to pieces with a single tug—imagine the spectacle if everyone saw what you really look like underneath! Next time, remember that tip."

Winona stared at Hattie.

Then at Felicity.

She swept her gaze around the room.

Every single person looked at her like she was some sideshow attraction, circling her as if she were a monkey on display, waiting for her to make a fool of herself.

She didn't even bother snapping back at Hattie. She simply didn't have the energy.

Instead, Winona's eyes found Julian.

His expression was as calm and detached as ever—no different from how he'd look at a stranger.
