"Shepherd is the only friend my wife ever missed from back home," Frank said softly.
He paused, as if the memories weighed on him. "Shepherd saved her life once."
Felicity and Julian stared at him, stunned.
Felicity was the first to find her voice. "Mr. Frank, are you saying... your entire estate—?"
"All of it is yours," Frank replied without hesitation.
He looked her dead in the eye. "That's why I need you to promise, Jun, that you'll never divorce me. I just want to make sure you're happy for the rest of your life."
Felicity felt as if she were dreaming.
Frank's assets in Italy alone were worth billions, and he was giving it all to her?
Her heart was pounding so hard, she thought it might leap out of her chest.
But with so many people gathered for her grandmother's birthday, she couldn't let her excitement show.
She forced herself to stay calm, offering a measured response. "Mr. Frank, your assets are your own. I'm already living a good life—I don't need all that money. But thank you for your kindness. Let's not talk about finances today. This is my grandmother's special day. Let's keep the focus on her, all right?"
Frank's eyes warmed. "Of course. You're a good granddaughter. Go, you and Jun should mingle and look after the guests. I see some friends I'd like to say hello to."
With that, Frank lifted his wine glass and turned away to join another group.
Suppressing her excitement, Felicity slipped her arm through Julian's. She noticed how uncomfortably stiff his arm felt.
A strange feeling tugged at her heart.
Then, suddenly, she remembered what Frank had just said. She looked up at Julian, her eyes wide. "Julian, I finally get why Frank kept insisting we never get divorced. It's not about stock prices or business—he actually thinks you and I are married!"
Julian's reply was cool and even. "I picked up on that. Frank thinks we're husband and wife."
Felicity brightened instantly.
