"Go, Mommy~! Don’t let them discourage you! You are better than everyone cause you are the best mom ever~!"
"You can outrun them, Mommy~!"
"Sis~! Don’t push yourself too much... but destroy them all~!"
Lola winced at the twins’ and Slater’s cheers. The four of them — Allen included — had set up a table on the side and were eating breakfast while watching her.
I’m not running with them because I want to beat them!
But she kept that to herself, shaking her head and refocusing on her self-assigned mission. She jogged right beside the group, pacing them. Some of the men glanced at her but said nothing, choosing instead to ignore her completely.
They weren’t running fast, but their pace was steady — relentless. Still, even a consistent jog would drain anyone eventually, especially with little rest, food, or water. Minutes later, the man at the front glanced at Lola from the corner of his eye.
"What are you doing?" he asked under his breath, sounding like he was wasting his last bit of energy just speaking.
Lola shot him a sidelong look before facing forward.
"Morning run," she said flatly. "You guys wouldn’t stop even when I tried, so I’ll run too."
Those who heard her shifted their eyes her way, almost snickering. Some shook their heads but didn’t think much of it. Surely, she would give up once she got tired. So they carried on.
However, lap after lap, Lola was still there — running beside them.
Before anyone realized it, she had been running with them for a solid thirty minutes.
Their audience had already finished breakfast and were now just watching. Chacha swung her legs back and forth, clutching her plushie in one arm.
"Mommy isn’t outrunning them," she muttered with a pout. "How will she win?"
Second rubbed his chin, eyes locked on his mother. "Should we join her?"
"You two should stay here and cheer," Slater advised, catching their attention. "I think she’s trying something out."
"It’s better if we stay out of it," Allen added, smiling faintly. "I don’t know what Miss Lola’s plan is, but I can tell this is important."
He slowly shifted his gaze toward the runners and Lola. "If she manages to make them stop, then that’s a good start."
It was well known that Atlas wasn’t originally meant to be part of the Secret Society. But for many reasons, he had assumed the role — for the sake of the Bennets and Zoren Pierson. Still, commanding a powerful force wasn’t easy.
Atlas didn’t just join the Secret Society, and began issuing orders. Well, he did, but it wasn’t easy as that. Problems arose because most of the Order’s members didn’t recognize his authority. And if people wouldn’t listen, being a leader was nothing more than an empty title.
This situation was no different for Lola.
Even the Secret Society wouldn’t acknowledge her unless she earned their respect. Otherwise, people would simply see her as Atlas’s weakness. She didn’t need to prove herself right now — after all, she wasn’t Atlas’s wife yet — but since things had come to this, Allen was curious to see how she’d make them listen.
Chacha, Second, and Slater exchanged a look, then turned toward Lola again. Deep down, they all rooted for her. They knew that if she couldn’t make them stop on her own, it would become a serious problem later.
Meanwhile, Lola focused on keeping her breathing steady.
