Chapter 334: Tea Party II

The tea party was set in Celestine’s beautiful greenhouse garden. A long table occupied the center, surrounded by flowers in full bloom. The air was slightly misty, carrying the delicate scent of tea and blossoms. The small fountains placed perfectly in some corners added more to the sophistication of the place. Not to mention, with the sun shining straight at the glasses, everything looked sparkly.

Curiosity gleamed in every woman’s eyes as they discreetly observed Mrs. Bennet. Yet they remained demure, engaging in light conversation. By "light," it began with Celestine introducing the teas she had prepared and the hors d’oeuvres.

"I know I’ve already said this, but I hope you enjoy everything I prepared for this tea party," Celestine said elegantly, seated at the head of the table, Lola on her right. "If there’s anything you don’t like, please don’t hesitate to tell me. I tried to find if you had allergies, but I couldn’t."

"Do not worry. I do have an allergy, but it’s fine."

"Still, do not hesitate to let me know."

"Of course," Lola nodded, smiling. "Anyway, I know you already know me, but I feel I should introduce myself properly."

"Haha." One lady chuckled. "Mrs. Bennet, you don’t have to bother. We already know who you are."

She straightened and continued, "I’m Sarah from Green Leaf Corporation."

"Green Leaf?" Lola raised an eyebrow. "I’ve heard of it."

"We are partnered with your sister-in-law’s company," Sarah explained. "She’s our sole distributor in Anteca."

Lola’s smile widened, though she could only guess who the woman was referring to. Only one Bennet family member had business like that there: Hugo—Atlas’s second brother’s—wife.

"And I’m Marivic," another lady interjected, quickly stealing the spotlight from Sarah.

Sarah maintained her smile, though she was displeased. Lola, meanwhile, listened politely, occasionally commenting on their remarks. She didn’t know these women personally, but had heard of a few before.

Celestine chuckled as one by one, the ladies introduced themselves.

"Ladies, we are not in a hurry," Celestine raised a hand before the room became too chaotic. "I know we are all excited to host Mrs. Bennet, but let’s not overwhelm our guest."

Lola smiled sweetly. "Thank you, but I do not mind." She glanced at the ladies. "It’s rare to see such a large group from the upper echelon gathered in one place. I’m honored that you came to welcome me to Novera."

"That is nothing," Celestine said. "If anything, the honor is ours."

She and Lola exchanged smiles, and the other ladies returned the gesture.

The tea party included twelve people in total, including Lola. All were wives or daughters of prominent businessmen from various fields. None were rivals, as Celestine would not tolerate tension.

Celestine had selected the best from each sector—or at least one of the leading figures. That was the significance of these tea parties: beyond connections, they were status symbols.

"What about you, Mrs. Bennet?" one lady asked, snapping Lola from her thoughts. "Do you attend fashion shows occasionally?"

Several glanced at Celestine, subtly guiding the conversation toward fashion. They expected Lola to answer "yes." But then —

"No," Lola said quickly, smiling. "I’ve never attended one."

"What?"

Her smile widened as confusion flashed across their faces. "My little brother-in-law gets invited, being one of the faces of fashion week. Thanks to him, I don’t have to attend. He invites the designers to private shows with the ladies of the family."

Though untrue, she said it anyway.
